I got a call from this number asking me to verify my account info, but it felt dodgy. So, I rang the Amex helpline straight from my card, and the person there told me it’s a scam number that’s been flagged before. Definitely don’t call back!

Like others have mentioned, this call said it was from American Express and it actually was. Still, I reckon they shouldn’t be telling folks to ring any number other than the official one. I called the number on the back of my card and got through to the right people easily (the security team handles this). That’s what I’d recommend doing whenever you get a message like this. But if you were told to ring that number, at least you know it’s not a scam.

Never just brush off unexpected calls from your bank. Always ring your bank back using the number on your card to be sure. Banks use loads of different phone numbers, and scammers have copied nearly all of them, so you can't know for sure if the call is legit or if it’s some trick to get your details or cash. There’s even scammers who put up fake danger warnings about real bank numbers on sites like this, trying to get people to block them or report to '7726', which causes your phone network to flag those numbers as scams for everyone. Stay sharp and double check!

Amex!!! Always ring Amex direct using the number on the back of your card to double check. Scammers have faked all sorts of bank numbers, so you can’t really tell if it’s your bank or some scammer just trying to steal your money.

Not sure why I'd get a call from Amex fraud prevention when I'm not even a customer. I wouldnt trust this number at all. If you get a call saying its fraud prevention from American Express and you actually bank with them, just hang up and look up their official number to call them back yourself.

Got a call from someone saying they were Amex, claimed there was a security issue because someone tried to connect my Amex card to my Apple ID. I’d also got emails saying the same thing.
