When they ring and it’s eerily quiet, it’s typically those automated dialling systems that are ringing potential customers. The silence happens because there isn’t an agent ready to take the call, but the machine still goes through the motions of dialling. I suspect that regulations are finally tightening up on this issue; it’s a dreadful encroachment on our privacy and ought to be deemed illegal and strictly enforced!
