I got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying he was calling on behalf of Sky. He warned me my Sky box, which he claimed was 7 years old, would be disconnected next week. I said I hadn’t received any official letter from Sky about this. Right after that, he just ended the call.

Got a call from this number claiming they needed to update my smart meters due to an issue. They set up an appointment and then suddenly said I qualified for a refund, asking for my bank account and sort code. I told them they should already have those for my direct debit but they insisted they needed them again to make sure the refund went to the correct account. I decided to keep them chatting on the phone for around 10 minutes just to waste their time, and eventually they hung up. I gave British Gas a quick heads-up about it just in case.

Just got a ring from this number not long ago, some bloke with a foreign accent. He claimed he was calling from "British Gas and Electricity" to set up a time to fit a new meter. I asked if he worked for British Gas proper, and he kept saying BG and Electricity. I said I couldn’t book anything right then and told him to ring back later before ending the call. After that, I looked up the 0800 number and it said ‘this number doesn’t exist’. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

I just saw a comment here after I got a call from this same number. Honestly, watch what links you open, coz some of these scammers make fake websites to trick you into giving away your details. Got a ring from 08004578173, claiming I was involved in tax evasion and had some sort of criminal charges hanging over me. The caller, a woman, warned me that if I didn't want to get arrested, I should press 1 to talk to an officer. She sounded really intimidating and creepy, and kept it very impersonal without even mentioning my name or anything. I reckon lots of folks might get freaked out and end up believing this nonsense. To me, it’s pretty risky and should be watched out for.

Got a phonecall from some call centre saying they were from Sky. They told me my box would stop working in a week and offered to sort a replacement, but then said they needed my computer’s IP address. When I asked why, they said it was to "check fault" or something like that. I told them straight up I didn’t want to share any info. Honestly, never give out your IP address to anyone like that. If you do, they could potentially access all your stuff, clear your accounts or even put debts under your name. Just be careful out there!
