Spoke to Kathryn Arnold from Poole who claimed to be with the local council. When I questioned her she mentioned some government insulation that's apparently now considered dangerous and even illegal in some countries. She went on about mass foam systems (HICPS), a new Canadian product meant for lofts that supposedly replaces all other insulation. She said they’d send someone for a survey - a guy called Terry Brown, head of security, would give me a ring. I told her I wasn’t interested, but she insisted she’d call back in a week or so.

I had a call from Mass Foam Systems, very much the same spiel as above, but they went on about how the insulation from the government scheme wasn’t any good! The bloke was called Sam Green or something. They booked a slot with me but didn’t bother showing up! Also, they gave me the identical code ICY70.

Had a couple of calls within ten mins from a bloke claiming the loft insulation I got through a govt scheme a couple years back isn’t up to scratch anymore. He said they’ve got some folks in my area tomorrow to check it out and maybe fit something called Isoline insulation. The guy spoke really fast, asked if I’m retired, my age, and mentioned some sort of code for people over 50. Tried to sound all friendly, even gave me his name, Michael Rose, and dropped a special code - ICY70. I just told him I’d think about it and hung up.
