They seemed to know loads about Barclays and the app, even gave me steps to follow to get my card cancelled. But while I was still chatting to them, I checked the Barclays app myself and quickly spotted they were trying to scam me.

He said he was from Barclays, but as soon as I mentioned calling their fraud team, he just ended the call!

Today, I received a rather dubious phone call from a gentleman purporting to work for the fraud department of Barclaycard. He asserted that my card had been withheld as a precautionary measure due to some suspicious activity that had supposedly occurred earlier. Right away, I was filled with doubt, largely because his manner of speaking was so clumsy and incoherent; it was hard to believe that someone like him would represent a reputable institution like Barclaycard. After about half a minute, I decided it was best to hang up. He tried to ring again, but I chose to let that one slide. No more calls have come through since then. I took a moment to check my accounts, and thankfully, everything seemed to be in order, solidifying my belief that I was dealing with a scammer.

Got a call from someone saying they were with M&S Bank's credit card fraud team. They started asking about my other bank accounts which felt really dodgy. Turns out this is connected to a scam involving a fake text about Royal Mail delivery fees. I lost over £2000 from my card and savings because of it. Definitely do NOT trust this number. Instead, find a different contact number for your bank’s customer service or fraud department and ring them up to be safe.

Caution advised - this phone number appears to be associated with a scam involving phony text messages about Royal Mail delivery charges. The caller poses as someone from the bank’s fraud department, such as M&S, and aims to siphon off funds from your bank account. This occurred to a relative of mine just last week. It's wise to locate an alternate number through the official bank website and reach out to them directly for verification. Stay safe!
