Over the past year and a half, I’ve been getting loads of calls, so I got myself a Call Guardian phone. I’m always checking the block list, but this number still manages to ring my phone no less than twice daily. It’s a proper nuisance, honestly. I’ve even saved these troublesome numbers to block them. I keep wondering, how do they even manage to get hold of our numbers? Can the ICO or TPS actually do anything to stop these kinds of pests? What’s there for us regular folks to do to keep these annoyances at bay? K41

On the 5th of July 2016, at around half past four in the afternoon, I received a rather unsolicited phone call from this number. An individual with an Indian accent introduced himself as being from an Accident Helpline. I made it clear that there had been no mishaps on my part and accused him of simply fishing for business. I then rather emphatically suggested he “take a hike” before I disconnected the call. To my surprise, he rang me again! This time, I informed him that I was registered with the Telephone Preference Service and that his call was in direct violation of the law. I warned him that if he persisted, I'd have no choice but to involve the authorities, before ending the conversation once more. Remarkably, he attempted to reach out for a third time, rebuking me for my alleged rudeness! Finally, out of sheer curiosity, I asked him to elaborate on the supposed accident I had experienced. His response was rather cheeky, as he told me to “take a hike” and promptly hung up again. I’ve made sure to report this incident to the TPS.

This number just rang me up saying I’d been in a car crash. When I told them that wasn’t true, they kept calling me a liar over and over. Then suddenly they said I’d fallen outside and started being nasty again. Honestly, I’m just glad it was me who picked up and not my kids or my wife.

Frustrated, I told him to clear off. The whole episode left me rather rattled, prompting me to report the incident to the authorities. Subsequently, I was actually visited by a police officer regarding this matter.

An Asian gentleman was on the line, and I informed him that I had already filed a claim and received my compensation, so I wasn’t in need of any of his so-called services. On the 28th of March 2016, this number popped up with someone talking about a car crash. The bloke on the line, who sounded Asian, was trying to offer help. I explained straight away that I'd already made a claim and got paid, so I wasn't interested. He then asked how much I got, which I found pretty rude, so I told him that was none of his business. Out of nowhere, he started going on about being my husband in a previous life! I was totally gobsmacked and asked him to say that again. He did, I swear. I told him to get lost and was so upset that I ended up calling the police. A female officer actually came round to check everything out.

I've been bombarded with calls nonstop for months now, from loads of different numbers. I've noted down every single one. One call really shook me - it was a woman speaking with a thick American accent, speaking slowly, warning me to call some number else or the police would be knocking on my door. She said she was from Inland Revenue, but it was so intimidating and honestly upset me. She rang again just yesterday. This sort of thing has to stop. Does anyone know where people like me can turn for help?

This number has been ringing non-stop, like 20 times in under 15 mins. Tried asking them to take us off their list but no luck, they just keep dialing. We're running a business here and these constant calls are clogging up our phone lines big time.

Some bloke named John rang me up, saying there'd been an accident in my family. He started by asking how I was, and I said alright, till he called and upset me. Then he went on about the accident, so I just kept telling him off with a few choice words until he finally hung up. Proper muppets.

This number called me out of the blue, claiming there'd been an accident. The bloke said his name was John Smith, but he was clearly Asian. When I told him I’m on the TPS, he flipped out and started shouting swear words at me. Proper rude!

I tried ringing back after they cut off, but the line was dead and no voicemail was left. So I called once more but got nowhere.

This seems to follow the same old pattern as the other remarks I've seen. When I mentioned that I’d never been in an accident and was curious how they sourced my number, especially since we’re registered with the TPS, he insisted on talking to my husband. I explained that I wasn’t hitched, and then he wanted to chat with my boyfriend! I pointed out that if he weren’t cold calling, he’d surely know my name, which he clearly didn’t. Eventually, I asked to speak to a supervisor, but he just hung up on me. Typical, isn’t it?

A man with an Asian accent called saying I'd been in an accident. I told him that was wrong and he started being rude before hanging up on me. I'm on the TPS list too. The number he called from either doesn't answer or might not be real.

I received a call from an Indian or Pakistani gentleman who claimed to be representing Accident Help Line. When I requested to be taken off their contact list, he responded with some truly offensive remarks that were utterly revolting. I insisted on speaking to a supervisor, only to be met by yet another individual from the same background who continued the profanity. I've lodged a complaint with BT and intend to inform the police about this unacceptable behaviour.

Came back home to find an answering machine message left by a guy with an accent that sounded Asian. He kept saying 'hello' over and over, like he didn’t get how answer machines work, and asked for me by name. When no one picked up, he ended with 'goodbye... f**k off'. I tried calling back to give him a piece of my mind but the number showed up as unknown. Honestly, I wish there was a way to put an end to this kind of annoying hassle.

Got a call a moment ago from this number, the person claimed to be from my service provider, warning me about issues with my email. They insisted I visit a certain website so they could "verify" it. I said I’d be reporting them, and they just hung up. They mentioned they were calling from Ludlow, which confused me - not sure there’s a Ludlow anywhere around here in the east. Seems dodgy to me.

They said they were from BT, but the call got dropped just after.

Oh, this is so familiar! For nearly a year now, I keep getting calls from 08001804321. The voice sounds foreign and they keep asking if I’m okay after an accident, if I want to make a claim, all that stuff. They come in waves - some days they call at the exact same time every day, then it’ll be quiet for a bit after I hang up sharply. I never had any accident though, I’m completely fine. There is a little scratch on my car from ages ago, like six years back in an Asda car park but nothing recent. So glad I stumbled on your site today, it’s such a relief!

My phone was ringing forever. A woman with a strong foreign accent answered and started talking about some accident helpline and asked how I was. I told her I was alright, hadn’t had any accidents, and then I just ended the call. She never rang me again.

When I finally said something, they just ended the call straight away. Weird thing is, I’m 42 and wondered if maybe they're after an elderly person or someone more vulnerable, maybe even a kid, to trick or take advantage of. Something about my voice must scare them off.

Got a call from a bloke, sounded Indian, claiming he was ringing from an Accident Helpline. Said they had a fax about some accident sent to my old home number which isn’t even listed anywhere now. Thing is, I don't own a fax machine at all, so that was a bit off. I gave him a piece of my mind and told him to do one, using a rather colourful phrase involving a certain part of the body - you know what I mean! Number on caller ID was 08001804321.

They call me almost every week, so I just don’t bother answering or sometimes let it ring out. Maybe one day it’ll end up costing these annoying pests!

Got three calls over the past couple of days, and every time I asked who they were and who they were looking for, they just hung up. Two of the calls showed an 0800 number, but one was from a +44800... It’s like the TPS doesn’t bother them at all. Old pensioner here.

Got a call from an ‘International’ number, some bloke saying he was from an accident assistance service. I told him to quit the scams and proceeded to blow a whistle right into the receiver. Then the number 08001804321 rang me back, and the guy asked if I’d really blown the whistle at him. I just told him to stop bothering me. All my accident stuff goes straight through my insurance anyway.

You’d think blocking a number with BT would be simple, but nah, it’s a right pain and just ends up wasting your time. Proper frustrating!

This guy David rang from some Accident helpline or something. I told him two times there was no accident, and then he just hung up on me. Pretty strange behaviour if you ask me.

Got a annoying call around 7 in the evening.

My partner answered a call from an Asian man asking if someone had been in an accident. When my partner asked for his name, the guy shouted he was his dad! Then he started getting even more furious, threatening to harm my partner's wife in the worst way. We've alerted the police already. Since we're on the telephone preference service, I reckon the caller must be from India or somewhere similar. The number showed up as Claims direct.

Just got a couple of calls from this number. I’m unlisted and only my phone company should have my landline number. The caller was talking about some accident claim. Suspicious!

Honestly, it's pretty straightforward. Just don’t pick up unless you know the number or it’s saved in your contacts. If they don’t put through a voicemail, look the number up online and block it. Most decent phones have a free blocking feature, so no need to pay extra. Don't let BT charge you for something your phone can do on its own.

Got a call from this number earlier today. The guy said he was from some accident helpline, but nobody round here has been in any accident. We’re on the do not call list and our number isn’t listed anywhere, so they really shouldn’t be ringing us up. The bloke sounded like he was from India. Told him to take our number off their records and gave him a proper piece of my mind before I ended the call.

I got a call from a company claiming to be from the Accident Help Line, asking to speak with someone at this address who’d supposedly had an accident. I told them no one here had any accident and requested they remove our number from their list, but then they just hung up on me. After that, the same number rang six more direct lines in our office - which aren’t publicly listed, so how on earth do they have them? When I tried calling back, there was just silence on the line. Also, judging by the weird delay, strange dial tone, and the caller’s accent, I’d wager it’s a foreign call centre.

Just got a call from this number earlier, and when I asked what kind of accident he meant, he said it was something about my bed and mentioned my p...y. I told him that was gross and that I’d be reporting him. Does anyone know where these calls might be originating from?

These idiots keep calling and being really rude, ruining my downtime with silly questions about fake accidents. Honestly, they’re just a pain and need to be stopped asap.

The caller claimed I’d been in a car crash, then when I denied it, they asked if I’d had an accident in the last six months. I told them I hadn’t had a car accident in over 20 years and asked how they got that info, but then they just hung up on me. When I tried ringing them back on the same number, it just said there was a fault with the line.

They’ve rang me twice now even though I’m ex-directory. Surely the phone companies could just block this number? It’s really annoying. What do these people actually expect to get out of bothering me like this?

Got a call from a bloke claiming there’d been some sort of accident. Didn’t even bother listening properly and just ended up hanging up. Straight away, it felt like one of those dodgy scam calls.

I’ve tried blocking this number, but my phone asks if I want to swap it with another blocked one. Even though they’re on the block list, they still manage to get through sometimes. I usually keep my answerphone on to check who’s calling, but they just hang up before I can even get a message. So frustrating!

The phone rang and went straight to voicemail, yet the caller didn’t bother to leave a message. This marks the third time today that this particular number has contacted us.

They keep calling saying they're from Microsoft, but the minute I tell them I don't own a laptop, they just hang up on me. Then, about half an hour later, they ring again from the same number and start asking about some accident I'm supposed to remember, which I've never heard of. It's ridiculous how they even get hold of our numbers when we pay to be unlisted. Feels like one big scam to me.

This bloke said he had details about someone linked to this number being in an accident recently. When I asked him for my address, he couldn't give it to me.

The phone keeps buzzing but as soon as I pick up, it just cuts off. Really annoying!

I got a call saying there'd been a car accident involving me. When I asked who was calling, the guy just shouted, "I'm your bloody dad, you idiot!" and then he just ended the call!!!!
