I’m not sure if this is actually a genuine British Gas number, so I chose not to share any of my details. The way they started the call was a bit dodgy, saying something like "Hello Mam?" which didn’t sound very professional to me at all. It definitely seemed a bit off from the beginning.

I keep getting calls from this number and every time it’s some Asian voices with weird background noise and then a sort of fax machine sound. It has to be fake because, well, that’s the gas leak emergency line and I can’t imagine it would ever ring me from their end. Definitely a spoof.

Seriously, are people not paying attention? This isn’t some dodgy scam call! If you notice the number has "999" in it, that’s a massive giveaway. For those who don't know, it's actually the official Gas Safe Emergency line. You can double-check on the Gas Safe Register site if you don't believe me.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from National Grid, saying there was an issue with my meters and that the electricity supply wasn’t strong enough. I told him the meter only tracks usage, not voltage. When I asked for a number to ring back, he couldn’t give one. Pretty sure it was a scam, especially since he brought up electricity and not gas - we don’t even have gas here.

This number just rang me up and said they were from Big Board Electricity. They claimed there’s some kind of mix-up between three electricity suppliers and they want to sort it out. They kept asking for meter numbers and the current reading. They said after that, they’d get a new contract sorted. Honestly, best to steer clear of them.

i keep seeing this number pop up and it’s actually linked to the gas emergency service. you’ll find it all over your gas bills and letters from suppliers or gas maintenance contracts. problem is, whenever they ring, the caller ID shows it as unknown. if you do get a call from this number, there's a big chance it’s a scam. make sure you get the caller's name, where they say they’re from, the business name if they give one, extension number, their phone number and why they’re calling. just a heads up since it always appears as unknown on the display. watch out!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with BT saying my PC was infected with a virus. They insisted they're reaching out to each customer one by one - which sounded a bit dodgy to me. When I asked for a contact number to call them back, she actually gave me that 0800 number, which I’ve never had happen before. I tried 1471 to see if the number was stored, but nothing came up. Then they rang me back about an hour later. Seems like a classic internet scam to me.
