Got a voicemail asking me to call back, but after checking who they are, I’m not bothering. Don’t recognise the number at all, so must be some cold caller.

On the morning of 1st June 2022, at about 9.59 am, I received a voicemail on my landline. Oddly, it wasn’t the typical automated voice you’d expect but sounded like a real person speaking. The caller called me by my last name but bizarrely addressed me as Mr instead of Miss. She said her name was Debbie and claimed to be from Selfsure Mobility. When I looked them up online, I found a legitimate company called SelfSure that sells mobility aids and the like, but the freephone number on their site didn’t match the one left in the message I got. The message asked me to call them to talk about mobility needs, but I’m certain it’s a scam. Today, 22nd June, just before 9.30 am, I received the identical message again. I’m quite vulnerable, having endured a nasty smear campaign and living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which causes some mobility difficulties, but I’m definitely not someone who would need mobility equipment. The fact they called me Mr could be linked to vicious rumours spread about me regarding my sexuality by those trying to ruin my reputation. I won’t share my surname here, but my first names are Susan Linda. It looks like my phone number has been given to some scammers using the name Self Sure Mobility, who seem to be mocking me and continuing their harassment by spreading false and cruel lies about my personal life. I suspect the aim of whoever passed on my phone and surname details was not just to intimidate me but to provoke me into reporting this to professionals like my GP. Then, those spreading the falsehoods might try to say I’m imagining things or suffering from persecutory delusions when I seek help or report the harassment.

I just ignored the call.
