Funny thing is, I’d just put up an ad on Gumtree, so I reckon that’s where they’re scraping the numbers from. Happened twice now whenever I post there. Caller’s blocked now.

I received a rather suspicious call purportedly from Horizons Law Consultancy. The person on the line was inquiring about an accident I was involved in and mentioned they were contacting me on behalf of my insurance provider. They made an enticing offer of compensation ranging from £3000 to £6000, but insisted on obtaining some of my personal information first. Naturally, I thought better of it and refused to share anything. The conversation ended rather abruptly thereafter.

Right after putting up an ad on Gumtree, I got loads of calls from those dodgy "traffic accident compensation" scammers. Funny thing is, they noticed the word Chevrolet in my ad - bit embarrassing for them though, as it was just a toy car I collect! If you’re getting calls from places you don’t know, best just to ignore them. They even use 0800 numbers now. Anyone who really has to get in touch will do it properly.

It’s quite clear that my details were snagged from Gumtree. I just refreshed my long-standing adverts for sale last night, and wouldn’t you know it, I’ve already received two of these dodgy calls today. I didn’t bother picking up, so I’m in the dark about what nonsense they were trying to peddle. However, from what I’ve read in the comments above, it’s definitely a scam.

Scam calls about insurance and accidents are getting ridiculous. Right after I put up my ad on Gumtree, I got a call saying they were handling my accident compensation from the past few years. They couldn’t get my name, car make, or insurance info right, plus they acted like I drive when I don’t even own a car. I just blocked them and reported it to Action Fraud straight away.

This number 0800 102 6483 has been ringing me non-stop for weeks, and I just kept ignoring it. Eventually, I picked up today to tell them to buzz off and then blocked the caller. Not even five minutes later, an Edinburgh number 0131 608 1261 rang me up. It was the same woman trying to convince me I could get £4,000 compensation for a car crash. I told her firmly to stop calling me again and she actually got quite upset, asking why I wouldn’t accept the money and if it was something she did wrong. I just hung up and blocked that number too.

Some bloke rang me, gave a name like Sanjeep or possibly Sudary, or even Gupta - honestly, can’t recall exactly. All I got was this weird spiel about BHUD BHUD and charging me £2.95. Then he started going on about Reebok, saying if I want that, he’ll sell me Nike instead! Proper odd call that was.

Had a ring from a nice sounding Indian lady claiming I could get around £5000 compensation for a car accident supposedly within the past couple years. When I asked if it sounded like a scam, she got quite annoyed, telling me I was fibbing and it’s fine to confess if I’d had a crash. Thing is, I don’t even have a driving licence.

I received a call claiming to be from "Road to Recovery," but it was evident that it was simply an Indian call centre. They mentioned having information about an accident I was supposedly involved in. When I pressed them for my vehicle registration number, I was switched to a supervisor. After challenging him about which law firm they represented, I realised none of the names he listed were familiar to me. Then, to my astonishment, he resorted to name-calling and referred to me as a "monkey bitch." I couldn't help but retort that he ought to find himself a legitimate job!

Classic trick - they target folks who post on Gumtree and pretend they’re offering cash. They told me I was owed £4000 for a car accident, but I don’t even own a car! I received a rather dubious phone call, seemingly from an Asian call centre, claiming to be a verification call from Hastings Direct. The representative informed me that I was eligible for a hefty payout of £4,500, but I’d need to complete some verification process first. Naturally, I inquired why they hadn’t sent me any written communication, as that would typically be the norm. The caller insisted that was not their policy. I promptly declined to provide any personal information since I was sceptical about the legitimacy of the call. To my surprise, mere moments later, I was contacted again, this time from a different company, with an 0161 area code. They were peddling a similar story, but I told them I was no longer interested, mentioning I had already been approached. Their response? "Alright, have a lovely day." It all had the distinct whiff of a scam, so I have now blocked both numbers.
