For the last week, I've been getting 2 or more calls every day on both my mobile and landline from the number 08000987824. Since I didn't recognise it, I just ignored the calls. Every time, they hang up before I even get to hear the voicemail start.

Yeah, it might show as a Sky number but that doesn’t guarantee it’s actually Sky ringing. Loads of scammers spoof numbers so it seems like the call’s legit.

It’s ridiculous that we have to prove our identity when someone calls, but the callers themselves don’t have to prove who they are like we do when we phone them.

Today, I got a ring from this number claiming there was a £300 charge from Amazon on my account. Then they mentioned another payment of £1300 to a company abroad and told me to press 1 if I wanted to chat with someone. I just hung up and didn’t bother responding.

He tried to get my mum’s maiden name and that memorable password they ask for. Then he asked for my first name again even though he clearly knew it. I ended up telling him my surname and postcode by mistake. When I stopped answering, he threatened to report the call to security and then just cut off. I checked with Sky and this phone number wasn’t one of theirs.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Sky. They were quite polite and helped me add Sky Cinema to my package, saying I’d also get a couple of free cinema tickets. They didn’t ask for much info, nothing about my payment details or anything dodgy like that. It seemed legit to me. They gave me a number, 0333 759 1018, to ring between 9 and 5 if I want to recontract my broadband. So far, everything feels fine. If it turns out to be a scam, I’ll update, but honestly, it looks genuine.
