Absolutely, it's the identical con game, just with a somewhat heftier cheque this time around.

Today, I received a rather unexpected cheque for £57.00 in the mail, purportedly a refund from Saga. It's quite peculiar, seeing as I don't have any dealings with them whatsoever. I decided to look up the phone number associated with the refund and, lo and behold, it flagged up as a scam. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced something similar or received a similar communication.

I recently dialled a number that popped up in a letter sent to me at home. The correspondence claimed to be from Saga Services Limited, pertaining to an unsuccessful Direct Debit attempt related to my car insurance. Oddly enough, there was no policy number or vehicle registration provided. I took the chance and rang the number, suspecting it might be a scam targeting my details. When I requested them to return my call using the number linked to my insurance policy, 'Stacey' stated that Saga was unable to call me back due to data protection laws. This seemed rather unconvincing, considering they surely have a valid business rationale to access and use such info, especially since I had given my clear and recent consent. It certainly feels like a dodgy operation that might have proceeded to ask for my banking details next. The FCA is aware of these fraudsters and even has an advisory against those posing as Saga Services Limited. Best to steer clear!

Absolute nightmare with Saga! I've been dealing with them regarding my Nissan X-Trail, registration LM08HCN, and today marked yet another cancellation - the fifth one! It's baffling how inept they are when you ring their 125 line. Strangely enough, if you dial a different number, you actually manage to cancel it. I’d highly recommend documenting everything and getting the number plate to report it to the police as they’re not taking this seriously enough. Honestly, such a shambles!

I've recently come across a rather dubious email claiming to be from Saga, which includes my correct home insurance policy number and instructs me to call the same number, 0800 092 0125. The message is as follows: "We previously sent you a letter concerning an overdue payment for your Saga Home Insurance, policy number xxxxxxxxxx. Thus far, it appears we haven't heard back from you. If you've already replied to our earlier correspondence in the last day or so, please disregard this email and any other messages we've sent. However, should you still need to respond, kindly give us a ring at 0800 092 0125, and one of our advisors will assist you with your payment details." Now, I cannot recall receiving any such letter from them, and something about this just feels off, despite the fact that they do have my policy number correct. Therefore, I plan to contact Saga Home Insurance through a number I know to be legitimate to verify whether this communication is indeed authentic. I’ll make sure to update everyone here tomorrow with what I find out. Big thanks to John Baxter for flagging this issue. Cheers, Grant - in response to an email.

I’ve received numerous calls from SAGA Insurance, despite the fact that I don’t hold any policy with them! It’s quite irritating, to say the least!

Dear Team, I've recently received an email requesting a payment, yet I know I have no outstanding balance. I'm a bit suspicious about the legitimacy of this number. The email claims to be from SAGA and includes this address: [email protected]. I've been prompted to ring the number 0800 092 0125 to update my debit card information. Upon calling, I spoke with a service advisor who, after allegedly examining my account, suggested transferring me to another department. I faced the usual rounds of security questions, like my postcode and street address. I did provide the requested details, but the entire exchange struck me as dodgy, possibly a phishing attempt. I pressed for clarification on why they required this payment of £11.20, especially since I’d already settled the full amount for my holiday insurance. I am currently trying to file a claim with SAGA after having to cancel my holiday last Christmas. The representative asked me to hold while she made some adjustments to the policy, claiming the underwriters requested an additional fee. In the end, the charge was waived, and thankfully, they didn't require my debit card details. However, I have two major concerns: 1. Was this communication genuinely from SAGA? and 2. Could it be a ruse by SAGA Insurers to alter the policy in a way that could potentially thwart my claim? To me, this feels rather dubious. I’ve searched high and low on the SAGA website and elsewhere online but couldn’t find any mention of the number 0800 092 0125, which has made me quite anxious about potential identity theft. - caller: I was instructed to call that number through the email I received.
