I rang them up just to mess about and waste their time. After about 5 minutes chatting, a lady from Cape Town, South Africa, actually came clean and said it was a scam trying to rip off honest folks.

I got a text from this number saying I owed money on an energy bill and gave a link to pay online or a phone number for an automated system. It freaked me out a bit so I checked with a mate who said it sounded like a common scam. I ended up searching the number and found this whocalledme site which warned it was dodgy. I was sure I hadn’t missed any payments anyway. Cheers to whocalledme for the heads up!

Got a text from this number saying I owed money for energy and to follow a link to pay EON. I knew we didn’t have any debts so rang EON using the 0345 number from my bill - turns out it’s a scam, so don’t click on the link or call that number!

This number has been texting me loads recently, saying I owe money and if I don’t pay, a £10 debt collection charge will be added. I used to be with Eon at my old place, but I settled everything and closed the account before moving. I rang Eon, and they told me there’s no active account under my name and to just ignore the texts.

I moved into my flat last autumn, and nearly everytime every month I get texts saying I owe money for some debt, but I've never had anything to do with Eon. I phoned the number on their website and was told it's a con. Still, those messages keep coming, really frustrating.

Got a message saying I still had an outstanding balance for energy usage, included a number to ring and a website called Eonpay. It kinda worried me at first like I’d maybe missed a payment. Thankfully, I checked my latest bills and then phoned Eon directly on their 0345 contact, where the person told me it’s just a scam. Honestly, someone needs to do something about these scams.

Got a text saying Eon said I owe them money. I rang Eon straight away on their proper number 03453034010 because I switched providers recently so I wanted to be sure. Turns out I don’t owe anything. I let Eon know about the number that sent the text, maybe they can sort it out. Definite scam. I’m certain my older family members would have been tricked by this if they’d got the message!

Got a couple of suspicious texts from 0800 090 3943, the latest one saying I still owe for electricity and they’ll add a £10 debt charge unless I pay by calling or clicking a link they sent. Knew straight away it was a con since I’m on a direct debit with EON and they take money straight from my bank so I wouldn’t owe them anything. Besides, I’d never trust a text, I always log into my EON online account if I need to check something. Just ignore these messages, they’re definitely a scam.

I received a message from a company purporting to be linked with EON, saying they were reaching out regarding some outstanding amount owed to them. It's quite baffling, as EON has yet to send me any invoices for the energy I've supposedly consumed. The tone of their message was rather menacing, suggesting that I could face further charges for 'debt recovery'. This feels utterly fraudulent!

seems kinda legit, says it’s from e.on and we do have a bit of an outstanding balance, but the phone number in the message isn’t the same as the one on our actual bill. the link goes to genesys who look like some sort of customer service company, so it might be real, but I’m not really keen on calling just yet, better safe than sorry.

They said I owed them cash and sent me a link to enter my card info. Seems like they got some details from EON because it recognised when I typed the wrong postcode. Really happy I looked it up here first, turns out they were my previous supplier before I moved.

I received a rather dodgy text claiming I hadn't settled my energy bill, complete with a link to a payment site. Out of a sense of curiosity, I clicked on it and found myself on a page purporting to be EON. Ironically, I settle my bills via direct debit, so I quickly checked my bank account, and all was perfectly fine. Naturally, I rang my energy supplier, and they assured me they hadn't sent any messages my way. They're now looking into this number. They specifically confirmed it's a SCAM!!!!! For heaven's sake, do not log in or enter your postcode or card information! IT’S A SCAM. DO NOT PAY! If you’re ever in doubt, reach out directly to your service provider and steer clear of that number! STAY SAFE!

Cheers for the comments. Handling loads of properties means sometimes you might forget to settle the last bills, even if you really try not to. Normally I’d just pay up and move on, but luckily I looked it up and found these reviews. Appreciate it!

Account sorted and shut down after last bill was paid - got a message saying a debt collection firm would be called if I didn’t pay up. Complete nonsense and quite funny how they reckon they can trick folks like that. Don’t be taken in, if you’re unsure just ring Eon yourself or have a look at your account on their website.
