I received a call from someone claiming to be from Dunn and Bradstreet. They were requesting details about the previous ownership of the land at my address in relation to the highways. I informed them that the land in question has never been classified as Highways land. It was originally agricultural land and was constructed upon in 1965.

I ignored it as I’ve stopped answering any calls now until I get a phone with an answer machine that actually shows who’s calling. I’m fed up with all these scammers. It’s mad that in this day and age, no one seems able to catch or punish these people. We’re left having to sort our own protection because, honestly, it feels like the authorities just won’t lift a finger to help.

This number called me today (I’m based in Bristol, so pop that on your list). But I didn’t pick up since I’ve decided not to answer any calls until I get a phone with an answer machine that shows who’s calling. I’m absolutely fed up with these scammers. It’s mad that in this day and age no one seems able to catch and punish these horrible people. Feels like we’re left to sort it out ourselves because no official body is going to step in and help.

The woman began by mentioning my business name and address, then asked if she was speaking to the correct person. After about 5 seconds, I confirmed all the details. I then asked who they were and why they needed my info. She claimed to be from the 118 group, doing a business directory for Dun and Bradstreet. The call felt odd and not very clear. They didn’t have a website or an email address. When I asked for info to be sent by email, she still managed to get what she wanted - my business name, address, and a connected phone number. Watch out for these types of calls.

Someone rang saying they were from a firm named 118 and wanted to check info about our village hall for a company called Dylan Bradshaw, which apparently does credit brokering. I wasted about 5 pointless minutes trying to figure out who they really were and why Dylan Bradshaw couldn’t just do their own checking. There’s absolutely no need for anyone, especially credit brokers, to have details about our hall. I reckon they must’ve grabbed it from the charities commission site. I refused to give them any info and have since blocked their number.

The lady on the phone didn’t have the clearest voice and claimed she was ringing from 118 group to update my info. I told her if they wanted anything from me, it had to be in writing, that’s the only way I’d share my details. Dun & Bradstreet are a proper company, I've recently had to sign up with them so I could update my details for the Ministry of Justice payments team, since I'm a non-government contractor. Seems like whoever's behind these calls might be fishing info using D&B's name, so don't hand over anything! If you already deal with D&B, they should have your current info on file anyway.
