They recommend asking the caller to verify using 'AppId' - then you’ll get a notification in your Barclays app to confirm it’s legit. If they refuse that, it ain’t Barclays, even if the number looks like theirs on your phone.

This seems dodgy to me. I asked them loads of questions and they kept getting stuff wrong. They were after my security info. The warning ad on YouTube basically says the same thing. After about half an hour, I called a mate to check the line was clear, then rang my bank. They said no way they make calls like that and any calls they do make are recorded on your account. Don’t get caught out by these scams.

Scammers usually can’t do much just from that info; they’d need your card’s security code, PIN, or loads of personal details like all of your security question answers. Honestly, it was Barclays calling me. They only wanted the first and last letter of my security question’s answer, not the full thing. When they asked about a recent transaction from the past month, I knew it was legit security stuff. I then checked by asking for the exact amount of my last transaction and if it was money going out, and she got it spot on, so she clearly had access to my Barclays account. It’s been three weeks now and nothing dodgy has happened. Loads of people freaking out about it seem to be just guessing and acting like they’re crime experts or something.

Had a similar thing happen: Barclays Fraud said it wasn’t them calling. My guess is it’s some sort of indirect test from Barclays to see if customers are paying attention to security. Seems like a clever and reasonable approach for businesses to use. If it was a proper scam, there wouldn’t be records going back to 2016 linking it to Barclays - it would’ve been shut down ages ago. Still, best to assume all calls like this are scams and be cautious.

Got a call from someone claiming to be Barclays, but as soon as I said I was with their Fraud Team, they just ended the call. (I don’t actually work there, but it’s a handy excuse LOL)

I received a rather peculiar call from some women on 14th January 2019 at precisely 13:42. They were asking for specific details about my mother's name, only the first and last initials, which struck me as odd. They also inquired whether I possessed a debit or credit card. Then, on Tuesday, 29th January 2019, at around 12:30, I found myself at my bank and approached one of the staff members to verify if that number was indeed linked to them. She looked rather puzzled and confirmed that it wasn’t an official bank contact number. After doing a quick search online, it appears that 08000852652 is purportedly associated with Barclays Bank. I can't shake off this uneasy feeling; I’m starting to wonder if I can trust my own bank anymore.

This number has rang me a couple times lately but I just ignored it till today. The caller claimed to be from Barclays and said they wanted to discuss Business Banking with me. They said it wasn’t a sales pitch but clearly had a script to stick to. They asked for my mum's maiden name “to verify my identity.” I cut the call off right away.

If it turns out to be Barclays, they’re certainly not helping their case. I just received a call from someone claiming to be my personal banker-news to me, I didn't even know I had one! The caller requested some specific information, and I decided to end the conversation. It could well be the real deal, but when in doubt, it’s best to disconnect and ring up your nearest branch to verify its authenticity.

I recently received a call on my landline from this number, but when I picked up, there was no one on the other end. Strangely enough, I haven’t shared my number with anyone, given that my phone line has only just been activated. I’ve heard whispers that it’s linked to Barclays, supposedly inquiring about people's accounts. I received an authentic call from Barclays earlier. They’ll definitely ask a few security questions to verify your identity, but rest assured they won’t ever request your PIN or passwords, as mentioned on their official website and in their advertisements. In fact, they can verify a six-digit number from your debit card to ensure you're comfortable. The purpose of their call is to assess your accounts-not a sales pitch at all. I had a pleasant experience and appreciated their assistance!

Barclays does indeed make specific calls. As an employee of the bank, I can confirm that they will strictly request details such as your mother's maiden name and your date of birth. They will never ask for PINs, passcodes, or any sensitive account details during these conversations.

Someone rang me claiming to be from Barclays and even asked me for my date of birth to confirm it was me. I checked by calling Barclays back on a number I know is legit, and they said they had no record of any call like that. They also mentioned it’s possible for callers to fake the number they’re calling from.

When I told them I wasn’t interested, they started getting a bit annoyed and kept trying to sweeten the deal. After I said no a few times, they just hung up. Feels like a dodgy sales pitch or some kinda scam. I've blocked the number and will contact Virgin first thing tomorrow to sort it out.
