Got a call from someone named Frank claiming to be with BT, saying he was ringing for the Account Manager who supposedly wanted to come by and check how everything was running to improve our service. We already had Open Reach visit and verify our setup, plus I spoke with BT in December 2023 about what the service includes. Hung up quickly since it was obvious it was a phishing attempt, nothing to do with BT.

Just got a call from 08000790875. When I asked where he was calling from, he said BT Corporate. I had already looked the number up online and called him out, saying no way, you’re actually with Astute, so why fake it? Astute are basically a lead gen firm, hunting clients for some telecom company. He said he wanted to chat about ADSL lines going offline in 2024 - I’m well aware and actually knew more than him. Bit of a shame, he seemed alright, just stuck in a rubbish role.

Some bloke said he was from BT and kicked off with a chat about telecom stuff, saying there was nothing to sell me. Then he asked to send over a meeting invite, so I gave him a rubbish email. Right after, I got a dodgy phishing email from a sketchy non-BT address. The name on the invite was completely different to the one he used on the call. I’ve blocked his number at the exchange. Now he’s been ringing every direct line in the block one after the other, hiding his caller ID, trying to blag info. This has been happening for two days straight.

So, this number is from Astute, a firm that does work for BT. Watch out though, cos scammers might be pretending to be them to try and fish info out of you. Never share any personal info with someone who calls you out of the blue. And never say 'yes' if they ask you to confirm your name. Best thing to do is just log in to your account online and check for yourself.

Got a call from a mumbling, clearly inexperienced teenager, sounded like they were just reading off a script. We've had calls from Astute before and made it clear we want off their call list. To the Astute caller if you're reading this: -Here's a tip: when you’re asking for a "contact" (basically just someone’s name you dug up from our company), don’t say "if he’s about". We're not pals. -The word "Astute" means being smart enough to size things up and use it to your benefit. Kinda funny you can’t see that you’re wasting your time here.

Got a call from a bloke at BT who was really rude. When I picked up, he just went straight into asking for someone without even saying hello or telling me who he was. Honestly, if the people working in these call centres knew a bit about manners and how to talk on the phone properly, maybe they'd actually end up speaking to the person they're after instead of the poor girl who just puts them on hold and doesn’t bother trying to get through. So frustrating! xoxo

Got a call from a woman claiming to be with BT trying to talk to a mate of mine, but she only knew her old surname (she’s been married ages). She said it was about comms? Sounds dodgy to me as ringing the number back just says it’s not in service. Definitely a scam or spoof, I reckon.

These people are really sketchy. Usually, I don’t let callers like this keep me on the line for more than a minute or two. This bloke rang saying he was from BT. When I told him BT doesn't usually ring up like that, he then said he was with EE. I told him EE don’t call customers like that either, so there’s no point giving him any of my info. In the end, he wanted my email address. Sounds to me like they’re trying to gather info to sell to others. I’d mark this number as spam for sure. Cheers.

This number itself isn't a scam, but scammers can fake it to try and get your info. Spoofing real business phone numbers is a big issue for companies and us customers alike. Have a look at the comments here to see more about it. There needs to be some serious pressure on parliament to make our phone providers, including folks like Astute, roll out Caller ID Authentication tech which could really help cut down or stop scammers using legit numbers.

This number seems legit and mostly safe to use. Look through the comments below. If you reckon it’s a scam, then report it to the authorities. Info on how to do that is also shared in this thread. There’s way too many false scam claims here on real business numbers, marked as red scams wrongly.

The posts from 18/06 and 29/07 have some info about these calls, so it seems like this number isn’t a scam. But watch out anyway - scammers often clone real business numbers to trick folks. This shady stuff really hurts businesses and makes customers rightly wary of any cold calls they get. I’ve heard the US is rolling out ‘Caller ID Authentication’ to block spoofed and fake numbers. Why don’t UK companies reach out to Parliament, explain the issue, and push to get our telecoms to follow the US lead and clamp down on scam calls?

A guy with a Scottish accent rang up asking for our IT manager by name, claiming to be from BT. I told him we don’t take calls and gave him an email instead, but he insisted it was urgent and he needed to speak to someone straight away. When that didn’t work, he started asking for either the head of finance or maybe sales - so that’s three different departments now? I work here at ASTUTE LTD. We’re contracted by BT to arrange appointments for their Business Managers. If you listened to the whole call, you’d know that. We’re not trying to scam anyone. We don’t ask for anything but your renewal date to give you a quote, and if we double-check info, it’s stuff that’s already public. No private info is asked for. So where’s the scam? BT owns EE now, that’s why we mention both. We’ve got a job to do, and we don’t explain everything to the receptionist, cos it’s their role to screen sales calls, not waste their or anyone else’s time.

Phone rings, I ignore and let it go to voicemail, then hang up. Same thing over and over!

Said they were from BT, called me for the 4th time this week. Asked about our account manager but didn’t seem to have a clue. Ended up just hanging up!

This person rang me a couple of times using different phone numbers, just wouldn’t accept a refusal!

They asked me for a name that’s not linked to my phone number, feels like a dodgy scam.

Got a call from someone faking being BT, targeting business lines. Total scammers, just hang up, block them, and don’t trust a word!

Claimed he was from BT and kept using pushy language about mobile contracts. When I didn’t budge, he got all short and just hung up. Same old lines about "I called a few months back and you told me to ring again" and all that.

Said they were from BT, but I’m not convinced at all.

These scammers have gotten cleverer, now telling you “your National Insurance number has been compromised, press 1 to speak with an advisor.” Definitely do not press 1, just hang up and block the caller.

Got another call from these muppets, and trust me, they’re already well down my list of people to deal with. They claim to be BT, but after all the times I've told "BT" to jog on, it's obvious they’re not legit. I didn’t answer this time, but if they ring back, they’re gonna get a mouthful.

Spoke to our BT contact and they said this ain’t from them at all, just some scam trying to get your details - BEST NOT TO PICK UP.

They ring daily and I've just stopped picking up when I see the number. The person says they're from BT and are after info on your business account.

They claimed they were from BT Corporate, but said they were just a BT contractor or something like that. Total sales pitch, best to just ignore.

Got another bloke saying he's from BT, but trust me, he isn't. Don't give him any info like the last person did, he just uses that to make his stories seem more real next time he tries to trick you.

Someone pretending to be from BT business called me, but we have no dealings with BT so it was clearly fake. I don’t care what they’re trying to sell; if you start off by lying, I’m not interested. I blocked the number and now they’re calling me from a blocked caller ID.

they ring me twice daily asking for the IT director. honestly, he’s never gonna answer.

Got a call from someone saying they were from BT about a tech issue. They sounded really cocky and were quite rude when I asked some questions. Something didn’t sit right, their behaviour was dodgy and dodging my questions. So, I passed them over to our helpdesk, they’re good at spotting these fake “tech support” callers.

Pretty clear this was a sales call, we switched over to EE like 3 months back and he had no clue about it. Thanks anyway for your time. Cheers, Sam Newton 0800 079 0875

They kept saying they were from BT and kept switching the reason when I asked how they didn’t have details about our business account. They quickly stopped bothering once they found out I have a direct connection with someone at the actual BT office.

They ring us almost every day, usually saying they're from BT, but now we've started calling back acting like we're from another firm. They're polite but super pushy and just won't accept a refusal. Honestly, we're getting a bit fed up with it all.

Some bloke rang up pretending he was from BT, saying he couldn't send an email so had to call instead, trying to fish for contact info at our company. He claimed we were BT customers, which we're definitely not. This number has buzzed us a few times now. It’s pretty frustrating because he acts like he’s already chatting with people here, so you kinda feel you need to be polite and keep the chat going to figure out who to pass him onto, in case he's a legit client! Makes it tricky answering the phone, and you’re left wondering what’s actually true!

Got a few calls at work from someone claiming to be BT. Could be a scam or just sales, both are a pain tho. We work with BT loads and real calls always go to the correct dept, never some random number in our range. So yeah, blocked them now.

Really nice sounding bloke calls me all the time. You can hear kids laughing and playing behind him. He says he’s ringing from BT to make sure the internet’s running fine. Watch out though, it feels a bit off. Could be annoying or even risky since I reckon lots of people might believe him and end up sharing private info.

Someone called saying they were with BT and wanted to set up a visit to check our systems. I told them we weren't interested and that they should already have the details from their own records. They didn’t have an answer to that.
