No bother, didn't pick up and straight to block.

They said it was about child maintenance but my kid sadly passed away nearly two decades ago. Definitely some sort of scam going on here.

I’m with the DWP and rang my own phone from our office system to check it was real. It definitely was. Still, you should always be cautious and make sure you’re actually waiting for a call before answering.

I don't think it's safe at all, especially since they don't ask any security questions.

I got a call saying it was from the DWP about pip, but I didn’t pick up. Later, I rang the DWP myself and they confirmed they had actually called. Better to double-check like that before answering, just in case it’s a scam call.

Somebody called me and wanted the last three digits of a number linked to UC or something. That felt off so I just ended the call. Never had anyone ask me for digits like that before.

Got a call today but no voicemail was left. Was worried at first it could be one of those scam calls about heating bills. Turned out to be a real call from the DWP. They did leave a note on my Universal Credit account saying they’d tried to get in touch. Always good to be cautious with all these scams going about.

My mum got a call from some unknown number, and the person on the other end wouldn’t say who they were. Could’ve been a salesman or even a scammer, but mum didn’t want me to know till I checked myself. When I called back, it turned out to be the DWP. Proper strange how they don’t just say who they are upfront.

Honestly, I really doubt this is any real DWP PIP call.

I'm pretty sure that was the DWP on the line - they rang me regarding my niece’s Universal Credit. They even left a message in the UC online journal hinting at the exact time they’d be ringing so I could be sure it was legit.

Its PIP calling again, same number that got in touch with me when I first applied a few months back. They did a phone assessment, then later rang to verify my GP address and check my name.

Got a missed call from this number earlier. I can't imagine any government dept, especially ones linked to PIP or DWP, having any reason to call me. So, I just blocked it straight away. Not totally sure if it's genuine but I’m thinking it’s probably a scam since they wouldn’t have any legit reason to contact me.

Got a voicemail saying it was from Universal Credit telling me I needed to start a claim. They left a different phone number to call back on. Since I only have a week left to switch over, I think I’ll just hold off and sort it after I’ve migrated. No way I’m doing this stuff on the phone!

I got a call from a lady on this number who said she was with child maintenance. I’ve never had any calls from them before, and she wouldn’t share any details unless I gave her my personal info, so I just declined. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what was going on. I asked if they could send a message via email or the child maintenance website to prove they were legit, because I didn’t want to fall for a scam or anything dodgy.

Got a ring from this number, some bloke claiming to be from the DWP. He wanted to know my dad's primary job as some sort of security question. Told him my dad died back in 2009, so no way this is legit. Definite scam, so watch out and don't share your details with anyone!

I got three calls today from 08000720161. I picked up on the last one and told the woman I wasn’t sure if this was genuine or some scam. She handled it well and asked a lot of specific questions you’d expect only the DWP to know. Honestly, it turned out to be a legit call from the DWP about PIP. They didn’t ask for any sensitive info like bank details at all. If you’re ever doubtful, just ask them for some proof. And if you’re still not convinced, better to just hang up. Never ever share your personal info unless you’re absolutely certain the call’s legit.

I’m employed by DWP doing PIP work and made a call to my personal mobile using the work phone system, pretending it was a call to a claimant. The number that showed up was this one, so it’s definitely genuine. Just a heads up though, be careful with phone numbers since they can easily be copied or faked.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from 'child maintenance'. They wanted me to confirm my birth date before going any further. The bloke spoke really clearly and proper, so I nearly believed him at first. But since my daughter is grown up and I don't have any other kids, it was obvious a con. Luckily, I didn’t share any info. Watch out for these sorts of calls!

I saw the missed call and rang back pretty quick, like about a minute later. Then, an automated voice came on saying I shouldn’t bother calling again because they’d get in touch if it was important. Haven’t heard a peep from them since then.

I reckon the call was genuine, they just asked for my full name, the benefits I’m claiming, and which bank I use. They didn’t ask for anything beyond that, which seemed a bit odd. Not really sure why they needed to check all that, felt like a bit of a pointless chat to be honest.

Got a call with a strong Northern Irish accent, just started off with a plain ‘hello’. Didn’t say my name or the person the DLA claim was for, which was a bit odd. Immediately going, ‘Hello, I’m ringing from the DWP about your DLA claim and need to ask some security questions’ felt kinda off. Normally when I get calls like this, they’d know both my name and the claimant’s name right away, so this felt a bit dodgy.

Warning, this is a complete scam! You’ll notice some people claiming it’s CSA, PIP or Universal Credit calling, but each of those has their own official number. If you look them up online, you’ll find them on genuine government websites. Seems like these scammers are trying to trick you by posting fake comments here. Here’s a heads up with the real DWP contact numbers for different services: Pensions - 0800 731 0469, PIP - 0800 121 4433 or 0800 917 2222, CSA - 0800 171 2345, and Universal Credit - 0800 328 5644. Don’t fall for any others!

Looks like the so-called red alerts could be from folks avoiding their kid support duties. I reckon those are mums or dads who aren’t too chuffed about having to face up to their responsibilities. The Child Maintenance Service might be behind these reports.

Them child support folks try to act like they're from the DWP, but if you're daft enough to hand over your info, they’ll then admit they’re not even part of the DWP. It's proper dodgy and totally illegal, they’re not the DWP at all, silly buggers.

I looked up this site after getting two calls which I didn’t pick up. They called again right after I checked, so this time I answered. It was someone from the DWP about my PIP claim. He only asked for my full name (after using my first name) and my date of birth. He seemed to know when I sent my review forms and said he was just making sure it was currently being processed. I recently got a letter about an extension, which he was aware of, so everything matched up. When I asked if it was legit, he gave me a helpline number to ring them myself. He had a British accent and was quite polite.

Definitely a genuine ring from pip, just checking some small info to verify who I am, asking a few extra questions and letting me know an award letter’s on its way with some back payment. Cheers to all the tax payers for keeping this going, I’m hoping to splash out on a massive 80 inch oled and maybe a new Audi!

I received a call from this number while I was at my job, with the caller claiming to represent the DWP. I informed him that I didn’t have time for a conversation, yet he persisted in a rather peculiar manner, which raised my eyebrows. I have a strong hunch that this might be a scam.

I received a rather dubious phone call today. The caller, who purported to represent the DWP, was inquiring about a PIP claim and was particularly eager to speak with my son-who, mind you, hasn’t resided here in two decades! They were pressing for his current address, which I obviously refused to provide. Instead, I mentioned I’d encourage him to reach out to them directly. When I asked for their contact number, the one given was different from the official one I saw on my screen. Just to clarify, my son isn’t in receipt of any benefits, so I can’t shake the feeling that this is some sort of scam aimed at fishing for sensitive information.

Looks like someone has cloned the DWP number as whoever rang me definitely wasn’t from them. They wanted me to verify my details, even my bank account where they claim my benefits are paid. Problem is, I don’t get any benefits. So I just told the caller to send it through in writing and ended the call. That was about five weeks ago, and as I thought, I haven’t heard a thing from the real DWP since.

Today, my landline rang a couple of times and I ended up answering on my mobile instead. The caller didn’t request any bank information or security codes, yet they claimed I was owed a whopping £10,000. I decided to hang up after that, but it was concerning how much they seemed to know about me without me offering any personal details!

This is from the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), and those claiming "It's a scam, they spoke with an accent so it’s gotta be fake!" are just being biased. They could be ringing about PIP, universal credit, or other DWP matters. And yes, they DO have to confirm your identity to avoid sharing private info with the wrong person or someone pretending to be you. If you’re still uneasy, you can always ask if the issue can be sorted out online through official government sites instead of over the phone to be totally sure.

Received a call from someone saying they were from DWP about universal credit. They had mine and my partners name cause we applied together, so it sounded genuine. This is from the DWP. I didn’t get my payment today and sent a journal message, then got a call about half an hour later from someone who confirmed it really was the DWP replying because of a system glitch, so they had to resend the payment. The woman on the phone even put a note in the journal saying she was the one who called. If you’re unsure, just ask the caller to leave a journal entry so you have proof. Those saying it’s a scam don’t really know how to check properly.

I got a call on my landline around 2.15pm on a Sunday. The person said it was about a PIP claim, mentioning an assessment that happened on Friday. She said they needed to set up security before getting the report from an independent team. It was a woman with a faint Northern accent, maybe Geordie. Foolishly, I told her my GP surgery’s name and my old surname. She also asked for my address and postcode. They already had my landline since they rang me, plus my mobile number. Now I’m feeling a bit uneasy, wondering what they might do with all that info.

I got a call from this number that sounded all jumbled, so I decided to hang up. Shortly after, I missed another call and received a voicemail from a lady of Asian descent who claimed she had attempted to reach me twice regarding the DWP, mentioning a letter would be sent my way. I tried returning the call, but the line got disconnected. I found it odd for the DWP to ring me on a Sunday, so I dialled a different number. As anticipated, the voicemail informed me they were shut for the day. I have a strong feeling this might be some sort of scam! I’ll definitely give DWP a ring tomorrow to clarify.
