so i was trying to access my halifax account and got a message saying i had to update my password because of some suspicious stuff going on. it seemed proper genuine since it popped up on their website and app.
they said they’d send me a pin through the post as well.

then the day after, i got a text with a phone number to call and a code they wanted me to use.

luckily i decided to google that number first before ringing, and it definitely looked dodgy.

This morning I got a call from someone claiming to be with the Halifax fraud department, saying there was strange activity on my account. I told him I’d look into it myself and call Halifax directly, then hung up. Later I phoned Halifax and, unsurprisingly, there was no record of any fraud alerts or calls from their team. About an hour after that, I received a text with the same warning, asking me to call a certain number. I checked it out and it turned out to be from scammers. Really glad I didn’t fall for it and kept my wits about me today.

Following up on what I said before, I got back in touch with Halifax and it turns out the message really was from them. Bit disappointing that the first customer service rep didn’t bother to look into it properly.

I got a text that said it was from Halifax warning me about some sketchy stuff happening on my account and telling me to ring a certain number to sort it out. I ended up calling Halifax but using a different number I found online, and they told me there’s nothing wrong with my account and that the text wasn't real. What’s weird is the scam message popped up in a chat with actual Halifax texts, so it looked pretty convincing. Looks like some scammer is cloning the bank’s phone number to trick people.
