08000608820 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 08000608820 👆 is reported as a persistent scam involving callers claiming to be from the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) or related organisations, often with foreign accents, notably Indian. They request personal details, sometimes including partial payment information, under the guise of stopping nuisance calls or offering discounts. Callers frequently provide a number purportedly linked to TPS or a supervisor, but reverse lookups reveal international origins. Attempts to verify these calls are usually futile as scammers grow impatient or disconnect. Victims note the scam uses legitimate-sounding names and employee IDs, causing confusion and concern over potential data breaches. TPS acknowledges complaints but struggles to curb these calls due to changing caller numbers. It is advised to remain cautious, avoid sharing information, and report suspicious activity to your telecom provider.

I received a call from someone claiming to be with TPS, saying they were reaching out about all these nuisance calls I’ve been getting. I ended up hanging up on them for a bit.

Seen loads of comments like this and I got caught up in the same thing. I told the woman I'd ring her back and she gave me the number 0800 060 8820, said her name was Kenball. But when I checked the number with 1471, it came up as 00000000 ringing. Feels like they’ve figured out that people use 1471 now.

Got a call from a woman saying she was from Ofcom, trying to sign me up to block nuisance calls. I asked why it wasn’t my actual phone company calling me, and how she could tell which calls were nuisance and which weren’t. She then gave me a number, 08000608820, when I asked for her contact. After that, she transferred me to a “senior manager” named Richard Wilson, who went on and on about their service. I told him I had to verify who he was and then ended the call.

Just like others have said before, it was a woman with an Indian accent using the same employee number tps0015. She checked my phone number, full name, and address and even acknowledged I pay by direct debit, but never asked for bank or card info. The only thing new I gave was my first name, since only my initial appears in the phone book. I'm curious though, what's the point of these calls? How is the scammer getting anything out of it? If they already know I’m on direct debit, does that mean they can get into my BT account or something?

Just like the others, got called by someone claiming to be from TPS, sounding Indian with that accent, and the employee said TPS0015. The number showed up as 0012460737511 which is in Barbados, funny enough (you'd think it'd be somewhere warm and sunny!). They had loads of my info too - postcode, full name, mobile, even my house number. Makes me wonder if TPS has been compromised or if there’s been some kind of data leak? Proper worrying if so.

Got a call from someone saying they were from the TPS, but they had a strange foreign accent. When I wouldn’t share any details about myself or my phone, the caller just hung up. The TPS system seems useless since it can’t prevent these fake calls. There should really be a way for us to quickly report these calls to our phone company. After that, the provider ought to be forced to block any more calls from that number and take proper legal steps against them.

I got a call from someone claiming to be from Telephone Preference Service, saying the number was 08000608820. She said she'd put a stop to telemarketing calls coming my way. Surprisingly, she knew the expiry date of my debit card and asked for the new one, offering a £60 discount on my next bill if I gave it. I told her I wasn’t interested in any money and that I’d be reporting this to TPS right after. Then she just hung up on me. Later I dialled 1471 and found out the call was actually made from 0012188375553.
