I just got an email from PayPal requesting my approval for a payment of £779.49 to something called VIPRE SECURITY, with the email address [email protected] attached. It said, “You’ve paid £779.49 GBP to VIPRE SECURITY. If this isn’t correct, please cancel the order right away at +44-800-058-4585.” Let me be clear: it’s a total scam! I’ve never even heard of VIPRE SECURITY before, nor do I have any clue who Maryjane Hermiston is. Trust me, I’d never engage in a security contract with anyone using an Outlook email account!

Got a weird email pretending to be from PayPal, looked pretty dodgy to me.

Suspicious PayPal email here... Got a money request from some Prof Lavern Purdy for £779.49, and they told me to ring this number if I don’t want to pay up... The weird part is, it actually showed up in my PayPal account activity - quite worrying!

Got a call from someone claiming to be from an online security firm asking me to pay more than £700 through PayPal. Felt like a total scam to me.

At roughly the same time as everyone else, I got an email that looks like it’s from PayPal but I’m sure it’s not real. It said I’d paid £779.49 to VIPRE SECURITY and included a note from someone called Deanna Christiansen. It told me to ring +44-800-058-4585 if I didn’t want to go through with it and gave that as a way to cancel. Pretty sure if you ring that, they’ll just try to get your bank info - sounds exactly like one of those scams!

I got an email that looked like it was from Paypal, asking me to pay £779.49. The message said something like: "Payment request details Amount requested £779.49 GBP Note from Major Johnston: You’ve Paid £779.49 GBP to VIPRE SECURITY. If you don’t want to confirm this transaction, please Cancel the Order now @ +44-800-058-4585 Transaction ID U-4S541951B0316762G Transaction date 20 December 2022" Thing is, the email went to an address I never linked to Paypal (I double-checked by trying the “forgot password” option on Paypal’s actual site). It screams phishing to me - if you call that number, I bet they’d try to get your bank info or your Paypal login. Stay clear, it’s dodgy for sure.

I got the same thing as everyone else here. You can actually stop the 'transaction' by just logging into your PayPal and hitting the cancel button. Worth a try!

I'm experiencing the same issues mentioned in the reports from 20/12/22 today as well.

Someone said they were from PayPal, but I never asked for any money to be moved. Definitely not ringing them back!

Got an email from something claiming to be Paypal with this phone number included. They tried to get money from me through my actual Paypal account, which seemed dodgy and matched other stories I’ve seen here. Be really cautious about any links you follow. I ended up cancelling the payment request and sent a report to Paypal about the whole thing.

I got an email from PayPal saying I’d paid £779.49 to some company called VIPRE SECURITY, coming from an address MaryjaneHermiston0077… It told me “You’ve paid £779.49 GBP to VIPRE SECURITY. If this wasn’t you, cancel the order now at +44-800-058-4585.” This is definitely a SCAM. I’ve never come across VIPRE SECURITY before, and no idea who Maryjane Hermiston is. Also, there’s no way I’d agree to any security deal with a random Outlook email like that!

Got an email from someone called Elisha Bernier asking for £779.49. The message said I’d supposedly paid that amount to VIPRE SECURITY, and if I didn’t want the payment to go through, I should call +44-800-058-4585 to cancel it. It included a transaction ID U-167333OPF1024723 and said the date was 20 December 2022. Felt a bit dodgy to me.
