2 yearsI just got a call from someone claiming they were with the "HSBC fraud department." They even told me the last few digits of my card. The bloke said there were two transactions on Amazon, about £300 and £400, supposedly made just 30 minutes before, which they said had been rejected. I told him I’d look into it and call back using a "fraud reference number" he gave me, on the very same number he called from. After that, I phoned my actual bank to check and they confirmed they never made any calls to me.HSBC Fraud DepartmentAmazon2 yearsThe bloke sounded really legit and even knew the last four numbers of my bank account. He threw in a case number as well. When I told him I’d ring my bank to verify, he quickly gave me a different phone number to call!2 yearsGot a rather alarming phone call today from someone claiming to be from the NatWest Fraud Team, informing us that there had been three attempts to withdraw a staggering £67,500 from my husband’s account! They requested a face-to-face meeting at the bank first thing tomorrow and assured us they would call back later in the evening once they had looked into the matter further. They even provided us with a number and a security code for direct contact. However, when we dialled the number, another chap with a strong Indian accent answered and quickly confirmed he was privy to our previous conversation! Sensing something was off, we contacted the actual NatWest Fraud Squad, who informed us that there were no attempts made to withdraw money from our account whatsoever! Apparently, this is the latest ruse, with scammers taking their time to manipulate and gain our trust.
