They suggested I give them a ring if I didn’t authorise the transaction. I found it quite odd, as sellers typically don’t reach out in that manner through PayPal. It seems they were hoping I’d contact them rather than reporting it directly to PayPal, which is the proper course of action. He received a call from this number, and unfortunately, he was duped into giving the caller remote access to his laptop for a few hours. To make matters worse, they managed to con him into sharing copies of his ID, which is issued by the government, alongside his banking information. This resulted in unauthorised withdrawals from his account. I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to be wary of this number.
