So these folks say they’re IVA advisors but actually use the name of a firm that shut down last October. They’ve switched their scam game from pretending to help with funerals to debt relief schemes now. Honestly, I nearly fell for it myself, and I’m worried that older or more vulnerable people won’t be so lucky spotting the con. Watch out!

I got a call from this Paypal number saying they need £899.99 taken from my Paypal account. They told me to call them back if I didn't authorise it. Definitely seems like a scam to me.

Today I got an email from "Paypal" saying I needed to approve a payment of £899.99. It told me to ring up Paypal if I wasn't sure about it. I didn't phone them, instead I looked up the number here first. Turns out, we've never dealt with anyone with that name for payments, so this has got to be a scam.

I received a call from a life insurance company trying to get me to commit to a monthly payment of £25. When I hung up the first time, the caller had the nerve to ring me back, saying it was quite impolite to end the call abruptly. Naturally, I hung up again, and wouldn’t you know it, they called me yet again! I decided to let that one go to voicemail, and ultimately, I blocked the number altogether.

Couple of comments down have some decent advice on how to tackle these dodgy calls and why just blocking them might not do the trick. Reporting them is just as quick as leaving a comment here. When you fill out the police fraud report, you don’t even have to give your personal info. It won’t fix things overnight, but the police need to know how big the problem really is before they can do anything about it. If everyone getting these calls and messages doesn’t report it and raise a fuss with their MP, nothing will change.

I received a missed call on the 9th of June on my mobile. When I attempted to return the call using my landline, which isn’t listed in directories, I was met with a message saying, "this number is temporarily unavailable." After reading the comments above-thanks to everyone for their insights-I decided to block the number. As a single elderly woman, I’ve had my fill of these scam calls!
