My mum got a letter supposedly from Halifax saying there was some dodgy activity on her account and that it had been shut down. They told her to ring 0800 056 3802 straight away. I checked with Halifax myself using the phone number from their official app and they said it was a total scam. The account number on the letter didn’t even match hers exactly, but if someone was stressed or not paying proper attention, they might fall for it. We’ve reported it to the national fraud team now. How people can do this and not feel guilty is beyond me!

Got some texts saying my Lloyds account is on hold 'cause of some dodgy activity and to ring 0800 056 3802. I didn’t call that number though - instead I phoned the bank using the number on my card. They told me straight away that they’ve never sent those messages and it’s definitely a scam. Just a heads up, don’t get caught out by these fraudsters!

Got a message earlier saying my Lloyds account was frozen because of some dodgy transactions.

I didn’t call the number in the message, instead phoned the one on the back of my debit card. They confirmed it was a con and advised me to just delete the text.

Never trust the phone number they send you - always use the one on your actual bank card.

I just got a call from someone claiming to be with the bank fraud unit. Definitely sounded dodgy to me!

Found a letter addressed to someone who doesn’t live here, looking proper and saying their Lloyd’s bank account will be shut down, with a helpline number (08000563802) included. Didn’t bother calling it after reading the cautionary notes on this site!

Got a message with what looked like the right surname and account number, but it turned out to be dodgy. No idea where they dug up those details from.

Got a call from this number claiming to be Lloyds fraud team, saying they’d frozen my account and to call them back with a reference number. I checked with my actual bank and my account was totally fine, no suspension at all. Feels like they were just fishing for my sort code and account number. Didn’t give them anything.
