Theres loads of ways scammers can nab your personal info these days, so it’s smart to keep changing your passwords regularly. Also, dont just leave websites open and unattended for ages, particularly at night. A mate of mine works in IT for the tax office, and his son left his computer on and went to sleep. Scammers got in, emptied his bank accounts, cashed in his ISA, and took out three loans worth about £35,000. They also drained his wife’s and kids’ accounts, plus took another loan of £10k in his 15 year old son’s name. Funnily enough, the police just blamed the boy, saying he’d done it, and threatened him with up to five years inside. Apparently, it’s a worse sentence than if he’d killed his dad. Took ages for them to figure out what really happened, freeze the accounts, and stop unfairly accusing the kid. His dad ended up doing all the digging to uncover the truth. Got a right nuisance from these folks, ringing us on two consecutive weeks at the same time, around six o'clock in the evening (the 16th and 17th of January 2011, to be precise). The following day, a woman claimed she was from Virgin Media and was after our surname! The chap who first called us mentioned something about a service we were supposedly using, but as soon as we interrupted and said we’d moved on from Virgin, he hung up quicker than you could blink. Clearly, he hasn't got the customer service skills! If she truly is with Virgin, then I can attest that their customer service was a right shambles!

They rang me twice but I couldn't tell who it was since they didn’t say a word. So I hung up after about 4 seconds and ended up blocking the number as well. That said, it might have been Virgin Media. We’d cancelled our order with them as we were really let down - it took them six weeks to come out and supposedly set everything up, but then they said there was a tech issue and we’d have to wait another two months, which was just not on. Still, like someone mentioned below, it could’ve been a scam too.

I got a call about a free TV and internet deal for an entire year, just needing a single payment of £75. They were pretty insistent, kept pressing me for my debit card info and wanted me to answer some security questions. When I asked how they could check those questions without having my info already, the bloke lost it. He told me to get lost and threatened to ring up taxis and order pizzas to my place to mess with me. Ended up reporting him to the police for harassment and making threats.

This number was originally linked to Virgin, but these callers simply won’t take the hint. They bombard us with calls four to five times a day. At first, we asked them to ring us back after half past five, when we’re available to discuss the matter. However, they flatly refused to give our partner any clear information about the purpose of their calls. Since they’ve choose to ignore our requests, we’ve instructed him to hang up on them from now on. Should their annoying antics continue, we won’t hesitate to terminate all services with them. Honestly, I reckon Virgin Media have got their security checks all mixed up. When Virgin calls, they ought to ask for just a couple of letters from your password first. If you say they’re wrong, then both you and Virgin should just hang up straight away. It’s the customer who should be proving who they are, not Virgin. Plus, customers shouldn’t have to give out any info to someone calling them unexpectedly. Just as another commenter mentioned, our number isn't registered either, which is particularly worrying considering we care for a diabetic and elderly family member. When we initially received the call, we genuinely thought it was from the local hospital! It’s all rather upsetting. I'm currently leaving a voicemail to inform them that we’re switching our phone provider and the reasons behind it. He asked me straight away to confirm I was the account holder by giving my password for security or something. Thankfully I didn’t fall for it and refused to say it. I just told him I wasn’t interested in any offers, and he hung up after that. Glad I didn’t give anything away.

It appears to be Virgin Media. I'm a bit unclear on the exact department, however. We just missed a call from them, and when we tried returning the call, an automated message greeted us. We're not in debt to them whatsoever, so I don't reckon it's anything related to debt recovery! Hope that sheds some light on things. Cheers! xx

Received a call earlier today, and to my surprise, the voicemail was nothing but classical tunes! Not a word spoken, just a rather peculiar melody playing away. Quite strange, to say the least!

This number has rung me like 5 times over the past few days. I haven’t picked up once and don’t plan to ever. It’s just annoying! If I wanted to change or upgrade something, I’d contact them myself. Virgin, seriously, let us be!

I received a call from this number claiming to be from Virgin Media, inquiring whether I was satisfied with their service. I responded affirmatively, and they simply said "great, goodbye," before hanging up. Quite peculiar that they didn’t try to pitch any of their additional services. The operator didn’t bother to introduce herself, just mentioned she was calling on behalf of Virgin Media. Strange behaviour, if you ask me!

I received a call from this number, so we decided to return the call and found out it belongs to Virgin Media. However, I've no idea what they were after since they didn't bother to leave a message. I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to pitch us some new offer or service!
