There are individuals out there attempting to deceive folks with fraudulent virus alerts that are nothing but scams.

I received a message on my laptop indicating that there was a virus present and advising me to ring this number.

So I looked up that 0800 number here before doing anything. Good thing I did! Didn’t click a single link or anything sketchy. Just turned my computer off, left it for about 5 minutes, then switched it back on and ran a scan - nothing harmful found. To whoever was behind it, seriously, buzz off!

I encountered a rather alarming pop-up indicating a Trojan when I attempted to access a certain site. I'm crossing my fingers that I haven't landed myself in any deeper trouble, as I found myself dialling the number listed and even permitted remote access to my computer. The person on the other end kindly presented a lengthy list of issues supposedly requiring urgent attention. They quoted me £199 for a one-off fix or a staggering £399 for a year's worth of support. Quite a predicament, to say the least!

I’ve had a similar experience to what others have mentioned. It popped up unexpectedly, and I managed to close it using the task manager. Since then, I’ve been scouring my system for any rogue software, but there's absolutely nothing to be found. It appears to be linked to a website - virus-0x13109473896502.com, which likely popped up during my Google browsing. Quite a nuisance, that!

Absolutely fraudulent!
The caller falsely claims affiliation with Windows Defender-best to steer clear of this.

I must admit, it left me quite shaken: I'm genuinely thankful for all the insights and tips shared here.

- A glaring red screen appeared.

- It froze when I tried to close it, then restarted with a robotic voice in a clumsy American accent.

- I received alarming pop-ups warning me about a supposed Trojan Virus and "fatal error". Oddly, my Norton 360 antivirus software didn’t flag anything.

- The voice ominously urged me to call 0800 0488866 at once.

- Again, the screen froze on my exit attempt and rebooted, this time with a female American voice.

- The language used was peculiar with poor grammar, for instance, phrases like "...there was a dangerous to try to get an access..." and "...we recommend you to freeze your accounts until some measures will being taken..."

Just got a call like this myself - the bloke said I had to press some code using the Windows key on my laptop. Luckily, I was a bit iffy about the whole thing and didn't trust him. I said I'd turn off my computer, but he kept insisting that wouldn't change anything. Once I restarted it, everything seemed alright. No doubt, it’s one of those scams.

Just like others said here, big thanks to everyone who put in their two cents. Really appreciate it!

Been through loads of the previous comments here and now I’m restarting my home PC and running an extra virus scan just to be safe. Seems like the number’s dead anyhow.

I received an alert on my screen claiming that a Trojan virus was lurking about, advising me to ring this number. Thankfully, I swiftly launched the Task Manager to shut it down and then ran a thorough scan with my antivirus software. No threats were discovered at all! After doing some digging online, it turns out this was all a scam.

Just like many others, I encountered an unexpected pop-up on my laptop that left me no choice but to dive into the task manager to shut all the windows I had open. I really appreciate the guidance shared here, as I managed to resist following the instructions from that pesky pop-up!

A warning about a Trojan virus popped up on my screen and I nearly freaked out!! Don’t fall for it, it’s just a scam trying to scare you. They want you to ring that number, but under no circumstances do that. Also, never ever share your bank info or any personal deets on the phone, no matter what!!

Just last week, I encountered a rather unsettling situation. Fortunately, I resisted the urge to call the number or interact with any links. I ended up reverting my computer to several earlier restore points to rid myself of that pesky screen. I’ve since installed a fresh antivirus and a complimentary Trojan scanner (Spybot) to bolster my defences. To my relief, neither of the programmes detected any threats. Fingers crossed that everything is back to normal now!

Got a pop-up on my computer saying my PC was infected and needed urgent checking. Little did they know, they chose the wrong person to try and fool! Now, I ring them up daily and give them a good few joke calls. Honestly, everyone should give it a go!

I encountered another dodgy pop-up that was a right nuisance. I had to dive into the task manager just to get rid of the blasted thing. Thankfully, everything seems to be sorted now. I can't stress enough: steer clear of that number! Calling them back would be a recipe for disaster! Just avoid these scammers at all costs!

Don’t answer if you get a sketchy popup call. Best thing I found is hitting ctrl alt del, opening up task manager, and shutting your browser down quick sharp. Avoids any nasty scam stuff.

I got this popup with a bright red background saying Windows found a virus and I had to ring their support number right away. The screen got stuck and wouldn’t let me close it, so I just switched off my laptop and turned it back on. Every time I opened Internet Explorer after that, the same warning showed up again. I ran a scan with AVG and it said my system was clean. Then I tried using Google Chrome, which worked fine, and after that, Internet Explorer seemed to be alright too. Honestly, scammers like that are the worst and should be dealt with harshly.

Without a doubt, this is a complete scam. I ended up restarting my computer and running a security scan with Defender. I received a call from an unfamiliar number yesterday that threw me into a complete tailspin, resulting in a rather severe panic attack. Thankfully, when I looked up the number, I stumbled upon this site along with another similar one that tracks calls, which gave me some peace of mind. My mum and I decided to steer clear of that number altogether. We turned my laptop off, rebooted it, and took the extra step of clearing my browsing history just to be safe. I intend to renew my antivirus subscription as soon as finances allow, since this whole ordeal has really heightened my anxiety levels.

It looks like I've stumbled upon a dodgy scam that’s requesting remote access to my computer. To add to the frustration, it seems the pop-up has managed to lock me out of Chrome completely.

Just like others have mentioned, I received a pop-up alerting me to a supposed Trojan and prompting me to ring a toll-free 0800 number. In a moment of daftness, I went ahead and called, but I quickly hung up. Shortly after, I got a call back from 01624891417 - a rather odd number, which I also decided to cut off. I went to another computer, entered the digits, and ran a complete scan on my laptop. I feel a bit of a fool for being taken in by it all and now I’m quite irked that it has wasted my entire afternoon!

Had the exact same thing happen to me. A big red alert popped up saying my laptop was infected with a trojan virus. Couldn't get rid of the message because the screen was completely frozen. Had to force shut down and restart my laptop. After clearing my browsing history and running a full virus scan, nothing showed up. Definitely a SCAM, so don’t bother calling them!

I encountered an identical situation - that pesky pop-up box just wouldn’t budge! Foolishly, I decided to call the 0800 number they provided, but instantly had a gut feeling and hung up. Shortly after, a bloke - who I believe was Asian and struggled with his English - called me back from 01624 891417. He attempted to convince me to let him access my computer, but I firmly declined. In the end, I had to restart my computer entirely. Honestly, it's infuriating that they think they can get away with tactics like that.

I've got a right pain with a Trojan on my laptop, same old story. McAfee didn't pick it up! Like an absolute twit, I called the number. I switched my computer on and was immediately bombarded with alarming messages about potential security threats, instructing me to call a specific number. I dialled it, only to find it was completely unresponsive-a dead line. My entire system froze up, leaving me unable to clear the notifications or carry out any tasks. In the end, I had no choice but to power off my computer by unplugging it. It was such a distressing experience, truly unsettling!

I've just encountered a rather alarming trojan warning that urged me to ring 0800 0488866. It completely froze my browser, so I had to turn everything off, restart my machine, and then opened a different browser. Once I typed that number into Google, it became clear that I had stumbled upon a scam! This has all the hallmarks of a typical con. I was greeted by a bright red screen warning me about a potential trojan lurking on my hard drive. I attempted to close the window, but to no avail. After powering down my laptop and rebooting, I chose to restore my Windows settings, yet the warning persisted. I switched it off and on again, cleared my browsing history from the last hour, and conducted a comprehensive scan. Surprisingly, it came up clean. I repeated the process, and once more, no signs of any virus. It's evidently a ruse, so do yourself a favour: don’t hit that ‘OK’ button or ring the number they provide.

Just like what others have said, I got this red warning saying there’s a trojan on my computer’s hard drive. I tried to close the message but it wouldn’t let me. So, I shut my laptop down and restarted it. Did a Windows restore, but the alert was still popping up. Turned it off and on again, deleted browsing history from the past hour, then ran a full virus scan - nothing showed up. Ran another scan just to be sure, still clean. It’s obviously a scam, so don’t press any 'ok' or call the number they show.

Following on from what others have noted about this number: I received ominous red screen alerts flashing from "Windows Defender"! It was insisting I’d been compromised and encouraged me to call this number, among other things. However, my Bullguard scans came back clean. I've had a rather frustrating experience, much like what others have mentioned. I encountered that dreaded red screen warning me of a possible trojan virus lurking on my laptop. In a bit of panic, I attempted to exit but was met with no luck. Eventually, I powered down my machine and restarted it, even going so far as to restore Windows, but that pesky message still persists. I turned it off and on once more and cleared my browsing history from the past hour. After that, I ran a thorough scan, only to be reassured that there were no viruses detected. To be absolutely certain, I did a second scan, and still, nothing ominous showed up. It’s quite clear this is nothing but a scam. Whatever you do, don’t click any buttons or give this number a ring!

I was just perusing a health food site when, out of the blue, a new tab popped up. It purported to be a Windows Defender alert, stating something about a "Security Update Error oxB4061748" and provided a phone number for assistance. My browser completely froze, forcing me to dive into the task manager to shut it down. Upon reopening, I was met with the same annoying pop-up. In the end, I had to fire up Firefox in a new session to avoid that hassle. I'll definitely be running my antivirus software later on!

Got a call from a number claiming to be Microsoft Security, but the warning they showed was a really dodgy popup with loads of spelling errors on a supposed Chrome message. I didn’t ring back because Microsoft Security Essentials doesn’t even mess with your browser like that. If you do call them, the scammer tries to get your IP address by saying they’ll "fix your virus," but really that just lets them get into your computer and steal your personal stuff. Definitely dodgy stuff. I’ve got some background in IT and tech, so watch out for this kind of trick.

When you visit that site, it actually makes your real mouse pointer vanish and shows a fake mouse moving instead. Then it keeps popping up a box asking you to ring a certain number over and over. Most browsers nowadays have a little option like “Stop this site from making more popups” - tick that box first, then close the popup by hitting the X. Whatever you do, avoid clicking anywhere on the page itself, or it’ll open the same annoying page again. Just shut the tab or the whole window. As long as your antivirus is current, you shouldn’t have any trouble.

I decided to look up this number after encountering a rather alarming pop-up on my computer, claiming that I had a virus. It was quite unsettling, as it seemed to take charge of my machine and demanded a hefty sum of £300 to sort out the supposed issue. I quickly cut their access and switched off my PC. Now, I've fired up Windows Defender to give my system a thorough once-over. Absolutely steer clear of this lot!

This site obscures your cursor and presents a faux mouse animation, giving the illusion that it’s your own. It also bombards you with a repetitive popup urging you to ring a certain number. Most contemporary web browsers feature an option labelled "Block this site from generating extra popups." Select that option, then hit the cross in the popup. Avoid clicking anywhere within the webpage itself, as that will only spawn yet another version of the same page. Just close the tab or window altogether. If your antivirus is current, you should be in the clear!
