Got a call about some Windows 8 deal for £119, and then they began poking around my PC. I quickly shut down my computer and blocked their number, but I'm not sure if that was enough to stop them.

I got a call saying my network was in danger because of some problem with McAfee I’d supposedly uploaded. They asked for £150 to fix it! In the end, I just went ahead and downloaded McAfee myself, and it didn’t find any issues at all.

I let some scammer pretending to be McAfee get into my computer, said my ipv4 was linked to an asprox botnet or something. Then they kept hassling me to pay for a firewall. Feeling pretty stupid for giving them access in the first place. Changed all my passwords and ran a full virus scan now, fingers crossed they didn’t sneak anything nasty in the backdoor. Really hoping I caught it all!

I got McAfee off Amazon and when I tried to install it, an error message popped up. It looked proper like McAfee but it claimed my firewall was messed up and wanted £99 to sort it. I rang McAfee directly and they helped me get the right software on. Sounds like they were trying to scam people out of cash?

Like a lot of others have said, this was a bogus McAfee number from some dodgy site. They got into my computer and then wanted to push a firewall on me. Something felt off straight away. Should’ve looked it up here before getting involved.

I rang this number because I was struggling to get my McAfee key to work. The website had this contact listed, so I called and ended up speaking to someone claiming to be a tech support person. They asked to control my computer, which felt a bit dodgy, so I just shut down my laptop straight away. I’m not sure what info they might have grabbed, so I’m planning on changing all my passwords just to be safe. Honestly, avoid calling these people - they could cause serious harm. I have no clue what trouble they might’ve caused me.

I purchased a McAfee subscription from Curry's PC World and tried to register it online. However, I ended up on what I now realise was a bogus website, even though it looked legit with a padlock symbol that fooled me into thinking it was secure. Just like others said here, I purchased a McAfee update from Amazon, and after entering the product code on what looked like the official McAfee site (it even showed a padlock in the address bar), I got an error message saying something like "unexpected error 0000x1200ds1 occurred" and that my key was successfully redeemed but setup couldn't start. Then it gave me a phone number, 08000418980. When I rang it, they tried to access my PC and push me to buy firewall protection. The website looks really legit but trust me, don’t call those numbers - it’s a total con.

Had a very similar experience as others here.
