Some bloke named 'Justin' with an Asian accent rang me claiming to be from the 'Telephone Preference Control Service'. He was asking if I was still having trouble with unwanted sales calls. I told him straight up, "Yeah, and this call right here is part of the problem. My number’s already signed up with TPS, so you shouldn’t be ringing me. Get me off your list." Not holding my breath though - none of these scammers ever stop, no matter what I say.

Got a dodgy call from someone saying they were from the telephone preference service. Came close to handing over my card details - really sneaky trick. Watch out for this scam!!!

Received a call from someone purporting to be from BT, insisting they were working to prevent unwanted calls. They asked for my postcode and house number, which was rather odd since they already appeared to have that information. Then the caller inquired whether I settle my bills via direct debit. When I questioned the necessity for such details, the call suddenly cut off. Clearly a scam!

Got a call from a bloke asking to chat with the 'owner' of the line. I told him my number’s unlisted and no one’s meant to have it, so how’d he get it? He said it was really urgent, but I just told him I’ve already made that clear and I’m thinking of reporting this. As you’d guess, he just hung up straight away!

I just got a landline put in on the 1st of August, but to my surprise, I found a couple of odd messages on my answering machine from July. Then, today, I received a call from a chap with quite a thick accent who said he was from BT. He used my name and claimed he was following up on some nuisance calls I had mentioned. I struggled to make sense of what he was saying, so I ended up hanging up. After that, I used 1471, which revealed this particular number. Quite concerning, really.

Got a call from a woman claiming her name was Jenny, sounded Asian. She asked if I was still receiving spam calls on this number and even knew my name. Then she said I had paid a bill through Direct Debit and wanted the expiry date for "security reasons." I told her straight up she’s a scammer and a nuisance before hanging up.

Got a call from someone claiming my TPS registration had ended. Total rubbish. I was just about to give them some info when I cut the call. The woman’s English was rubbish and definitely not TPS. I reported it to Action Fraud and reckon everyone should do the same. Definitely a scam.

We got a call from someone claiming to be from TPC, asking if we’d had any nuisance calls lately. They told us our block had run out and then asked to check our phone number - which was odd seeing as they’d just dialled it! Then they wanted to know if our payments were set up by direct debit and even asked for the card’s expiry date. My husband didn’t give them any info and they hung up quick smart. He’s not planning on answering calls like that again. Best reply? Tell ’em to send their requests in writing.

I received a call from this number, and when I picked up, there was nothing but silence. From what I've gathered in previous remarks, it seems they may be fishing for personal information like your name and banking details. It’s possible they are attempting to dupe you into believing they can halt nuisance calls. They could also be biding their time, waiting to frighten you into transferring your money by impersonating your bank and sending it straight into their pockets. This reminds me of those pesky 'car accident compensation' and 'customer feedback' calls that also seem intent on securing your personal and banking information.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from B.T phone management asking for my card info. They kept ringing every day for like a month, but usually no one would even speak when I answered. When my husband finally answered and asked if their mum would be proud of what they were doing, they just told him to f#ck off. Bit rich, really!

Just like others have said, they tried to sneak my card info out but didn’t get anything. They used the old ‘your card is expired’ scam on me. Honestly, with all the tech we have now, you’d think phone providers could just block calls from numbers like this, right? Feels like they let these ones slip through way too easily.

i’ve had a couple of calls like this too. the first one was just silence for a bit then an automated voice saying “please hang up.” later, i got a call claiming to be from the “tps” wanting me to renew something. when i said all they needed was my phone number, they immediately hung up. they seemed to know some bits about me but not everything. i checked the number with 1471 and it matched up. steer clear of these calls. the tps never asks for payment, it’s a free service.

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent claiming to be from some phone management service. She had my name, address, and even the last four numbers on my debit card. She tried to sell me a subscription to stop spam calls. When I asked how they had my info, she said it was from BT. Thing is, I’m not a BT customer at all. Then she just hung up on me. Definitely a dodgy scam.

Got a call from an Asian lady who already had my full name, address, even my postcode. She told me she worked for some call blocking firm and then started asking if i paid my bills by direct debit. I asked her what she needed that info for and the name of her company so i could look it up online. She just hung up on me. I dialled 1471 afterwards and it showed this same number.
