Had a call from 0800 032 2519 saying he was from the RBS fraud team and was querying two transactions on my debit card. I didn't believe him at first, said I had no proof that he was who he said he was so he told me to call the RBS fraud team myself. As soon as I hung up I had a call from a No Caller ID telling me they were the fraud team. According to them, my card details had been stolen due to (stupidly) clicking on a dodgy link from an email pretending to be from the DVLA (I know better now!) He seemed legit, said he'd cancel my card and I'd get a new one. I don't know if he was really from the fraud team, the call came through immediately after I said I would call them myself. I did get a new debit card, so that much was true, but 2 days later I had a call from another No Caller ID saying he was from the RBS fraud team and that my new card had been compromised. He sounded like the guy I had spoken to the previous week and seemed to know a lot about the RBS and their practices. I am not easily fooled but I was this time! Unless he was a double agent working for the bank and trying to prove just how flimsy the whole digital system is. You never know! He took £120 from my account, saying I needed to enter a code in my banking app for "emergency cash" that I could obtain within 24 hours at the cashpoint while I waited for yet another new card to arrive in the post. I said I didn't need any cash, that I was okay, but he ignored me and sent me a code to enter into my banking app to free up £120 cash while my card was cancelled. Basically that £120 went to himself. After confirming with the REAL RBS fraud team today, I know that call was a scam and I feel really stupid as I'm normally very vigilant. Now I have to wait for yet another card and I'll never use it online again. IF you get a call from someone who says they're from RBS fraud team, hang up and then call the fraud team from the number on the back of your debit card, just to be sure. If they had called you in the first place, they will understand.

At first I reckoned it was some kind of scam, but I rang the Royal Bank earlier today and turns out it was genuine after all.
