Yesterday I got a call from a lady with an Indian accent, claiming to be from HSBC. She wanted to talk to our office manager about our company’s account. She gave a callback number, 08000 304516, and we rang that today. Turns out it really is HSBC’s Safeguarding Team. My manager’s on the phone with them right now. Got a message on my ans machine from someone saying they were from HSBC. This is the 2nd time this month I’ve had a call like that. They told me to ring 08000304516 and choose option 2, but that number is famous for being a scam.

A bloke with a Scottish accent called, asking all these weird questions about a "suspicious payment". When I tried to get more info, he just went "aw f### it" and cut me off. Definitely a scam, even tho the number shows up on HSBC’s website. They must be using some kind of number spoofing.

I don’t even have an account with HSBC but got a letter threatening to close my "account" if I don't call and book an appointment before 31st July. Got a call from HSBC Business Safeguarding team. The number on the letter is the same as the one on their website and the bank has confirmed it’s legit. No need to panic. It’s important to talk to them or else your account might get frozen for not cooperating. Sometimes they also ask for this info through online banking too.

i got a text saying there was an issue with safeguarding on my business account and the info i gave wasn’t enough. it said someone would ring me in 45 minutes and told me to get in touch with hsbc business safeguard. my son answered the landline and wrote down the number for me to call back. he found the caller really unprofessional and i felt the same, especially since i never got a letter and hadn’t shared any info. so instead of using the link in the text, i checked hsbc’s official security page and that number wasn’t on their genuine list.

I found this number on a letter that i thought seemed a bit dodgy - the paper felt thinner than usual, and the logo was a deeper red compared to letters i’ve got before - hsbc told me they’ve updated their logo for the ‘hsbc uk’ rebrand. They also said the number definitely belongs to them.
