They wanted me to call them back but gave bogus details about Apple Pay. Total rubbish.

I got this dodgy text about claiming a winter fuel payment, and they tried getting me to set up a Google Pay. Luckily, I rang my bank straight away and they stopped everything in time. Thought I’d share this in case it saves anyone else from falling for the same trick.

This is definitely a con.

Got a phone call from someone saying they were from the Santander fraud team, telling me my card had suspicious activity. They even knew the last four digits of my card which made it sound quite legit. Felt pretty convincing at first, but when I told them I'd ring my bank to verify, they warned me my account would be locked and I’d need to visit a branch for a chat. I told them that’s alright and then ended the call. After that, I rang my bank directly and they confirmed it was all a scam.

I got a message claiming to be from Santander saying they couldn't finish setting up Google Pay for me (which I never even tried to do) and told me to ring this number. Weirdly, they knew the last 4 digits of my card too. Definitely a scam.

Watch out, it’s a scam! The message seems legit since it says it’s from Santander, but they never ask you to phone them in a text. You don’t have to keep setting up Apple or Google Pay repeatedly - it’s just a trick to catch you.

Got a call earlier saying they were from Santander and that there was some dodgy activity on my business account. They even knew the last three numbers of my debit card, which made me a bit suspicious. Then they asked for my birthday, so I said I’d ring back later. Suddenly, the bloke rattled off my birth month and year right, then asked me to confirm the exact day. I refused and asked how they were linked to Santander since I don’t have an account there. After that, he just hung up on me!

Received a message with a code to link card **** to Google Pay, warned not to share the code. Then it said if I didn’t request it, ring 0800 028 8103. Shortly after, got another text confirming the card was added to Google Pay. The message used the bank’s name, Santander, which made it seem legit at first. I called Santander on their official number I already had and they confirmed straight away it was a scam - apparently they never include a phone number in their texts.

Watch out, this is a scam number! My wife was trying to buy something online and put in her card details, including the 3-digit security code. Then she got sent a 6-digit code which she used to confirm the purchase. Not long after, a text came through saying a Google Pay account had been added to her card on her phone. The message said if she hadn’t done this, to contact that number immediately. We looked it up and found out it’s a known #### scam number. We had no choice but to freeze her card and report it to Santander, who then cancelled the Google Pay connection.

Without a doubt this is a total scam. I was lucky to be cautious. When I called Santander, they told me the number wasn’t from them at all. They even attempted to text me about updating my password. Pretty sneaky trick, but I wasn’t fooled. I reckon some people will fall for it though!

I was sorting out my new phone and had to put my card back in my wallet app. When it asked for a verification code, I accidentally chose to get a call rather than a text and gave it a ring. I hung up before the phone even started ringing. I'm pretty sure it was Santander on the other end, but I’m still keeping my guard up just in case.

I bought a thing from Amazon and next thing, this message popped up with a code to enter for payment. It wasn't a usual mix of letters and numbers like HD3YTJF4, more like just 63343 or something. Thought it was fine and put the number in, then suddenly got a message saying Apple Pay was set up on my phone (mind you, I use a Samsung). I quickly checked my bank and had to block my card before anything dodgy happened.

Got a text claiming to be from SANTANDER, telling me I’d just added Apple Pay to my card and gave a number to ring if it wasn’t me. About a minute after that, they sent another message saying they had to verify some recent activity on my account. They said future messages would come from +447723577841 and would include transaction info and instructions on what to do next. Seemed a bit fishy to me.

Received a message recently, and turns out scammers are really copying everything now. Don't press any links or buttons in texts like these. Best bet is to call Santander straight away to see if the call or text you got is the real deal. The one I got was 100% a SCAM! Luckily, Santander helped me sort it all out. Seriously, don’t trust random messages - always double check with your bank first. There’s way too much scamming and number cloning going on these days.

I’m convinced this is a scam after chatting with Santander. I’ve received a couple of calls and texts now - one about a payment on my card that I didn’t authorise, and another about Apple Pay, which I don't even use coz I don’t own an iPhone. The texts claim to be from Santander and even use their actual number, which I think is some kind of number cloning trick. Don’t get caught out by them! What gave it away for me was they kept using my middle name during the calls. Even though I’ve cancelled my credit card, they’re still bombarding me with messages.

Got three emails and four texts all showing up at like 1:15 in the morning. No chance to get hold of Santander till the morning so I had to check them carefully. They looked so real it was scary. The only thing that felt off was a dodgy account number and them bombarding me with seven messages in under five minutes! Every single one was about Google Pay which I've never even used.

I don't think this is a scam at all. If you’re suspicious, just ring Santander directly on their official customer service line at 0333 207 2229 and ask them to verify if those previous callers were legit and if the transactions on your card match their policies. People jumping straight to calling it fraud really need to chill and not spread unnecessary panic.

I received a text (which I've since removed) and an email that gave me major chills - it included my full name but the postcode was cut off. Seemed quite believable, didn’t it? Then there was a hassle trying to sort out my Google Pay registration because I had never initiated any such thing. They even quoted the last four digits of a card that absolutely does not belong to me! I've flagged this with Santander and promptly binned the email. I believe I've fallen victim to a fraudulent operation masquerading as Santander, claiming to be regarding Apple Pay and my older cards. After I divulged some personal information, the call ended abruptly. I promptly logged into my online banking and was alarmed to discover two transactions pending-one for Travelex at an ASDA, and another for groceries also at ASDA. It’s quite a cunning scam, I must say.

I've had these scam callers tell me they're part of the small group who's actually been cashing in big time while the rest of us are barely getting by with prices skyrocketing. One of them even bragged about being part of some elite club and laughed about it, like it's some kinda joke. It's disgusting how they brag when most people are just trying to feed themselves.

Got a call pretending to be Parcelforce, pressuring me to set up Apple Pay for a tiny parcel fee. A week later, my bank phoned about suspicious transactions - £192 charged for booking.com. I got a text saying it was from EE about some points I could redeem. When I clicked the link, it looked just like EE’s site where you pick a gift and use your points. Totally dodgy, this one. I nearly got done in by these scammers but thankfully my bank - proper Santander - spotted the dodgy bit and warned me in time. They’re real slick, using a freephone number which kinda tricks people, and there’s even a half-hearted Santander recording in the background. Don’t be fooled though, it’s all a con. I say just ring ’em up for a laugh, don’t give out any info, and have a bit of a vent on the phone. They deserve to have their time wasted!

I’m well aware that this is a total con... I’ve tried ringing them repeatedly, time after time... I tend to toy with them, then label them as crooks. I unleash my most colourful language on them and they just refuse to hang up... Right off the bat, they’re fishing for my five-digit codes, probing me for all sorts of information I’d rather keep to myself... They remind me of a swarm of greedy little automatons. Just let loose with the insults and nothing more. They’ve earned every bit of it since they’re hell-bent on messing with people... to rob them blind... to ruin their day... I genuinely wish I could put an end to their antics... If they had the slightest bit of integrity, they would simply hang up... but no, they persist...

I’m in a similar predicament. These chaps keep pestering me for the OTP that my bank sends over; it seems they're keen on accessing my funds. I received a call from a number that was withheld, and to my surprise, they mentioned my full name and the last digit of my bank card. What's more shocking is that they were aware I'd recently adjusted a standing order, down to the precise amount! They pushed me to enter a number for Apple Pay, but I wisely refrained.
