My partner got a rather suspicious letter from something called Argos Card, but neither of us actually possess one. As soon as I laid eyes on that letter, it screamed scam-definitely not the standard format you'd expect. I did a quick search for the phone number, and guess what? My hunch was spot on. Complete scam!

Completely legit. Got a letter, called the number and I’m owed £222.47! Because of a change in my name, I need to send proof of ID by email. Argos confirmed the phone number and email are both real.

This is legit, I got a letter and found it a bit odd they knew my address since I haven't had a card in over a decade. Seems they accidentally charged me a late fee, but they're now refunding it with interest and a standard industry compensation. The amount isn't massive, just 25 quid, but at least they’ve fixed the mistake.

Just wanted to update from my message on the 21st - today I got a cheque for £155.66, so this number isn’t dodgy at all, no need to worry about ringing it 🤗

I just got off the phone with Argos Card Services (their number is legit) and they confirmed that those letters and number are genuine. I don’t remember ever having an Argos Card myself, but apparently Homebase is connected too, and maybe other firms as well. So, missy going on about ‘Scam, Scam, Scam’ might want to chill a bit! Sometimes things really are what they seem, honestly.

Got the letter on 2nd Oct and just got the cheque today. If this is a scam, it’s a pretty odd one! Seems like they’ve taken over Argos completely and are even sending out cheques. Plus, no bank details needed, coz they never asked me about my bank or account number at all.

This number is definitely a scam. They’re after your bank account information and have nothing to do with Argos. Be cautious! - Caller: 0800 028 2054

I can confirm this number is legit and nothing dodgy! I initially chatted online with card services who said the letter was real but didn’t say much more about it. When I phoned the number, I provided some security details like the letter reference, my name, address line, postcode, and DOB. The person on the line told me the letter was about a refund, and they’re sending me a cheque for £49 now 👍

Received a bit of correspondence in the mail today and was quite perplexed, considering I haven't touched my Argos card in yonks. I decided to reach out via their live chat for clarification, and they assured me it was a genuine letter. I phoned the number provided and all they required was my reference number, name, and the first line of my address. It seems a cheque is on its way! - got the calling number: 0800 028 2054.

I’ve just got a rather dubious looking letter from something titled Argos Card, insisting that I reach out to a specific number. The contact number doesn’t match any listed on the official Argos website, which raises a few red flags for me. I’ve been trying to connect with their Customer Service, but alas, no luck so far. Quite the predicament!

If you want to look into this number properly, I’d suggest reading every comment in this thread. There’s plenty of useful info here. It doesn’t hurt to have a look and think through things carefully. Any real scams, like calls, texts, emails, or letters, should definitely be reported to Action Fraud like they say. If this letter and phone number are legit, that’s great - and you can confirm it here once you’ve been paid. But honestly, you never really know for sure who’s leaving the comments on this site.

Got a letter asking me to ring 0800 028 2054 about an Argos card. Was a bit iffy about it so I called Argos card services myself and they said it's legit. Apparently, some texts going round telling people to call a number are scams, Argos has confirmed those are fake!!!

Got the same letter recently, so I rang Argos customer service first instead of calling the number on the letter. They told me the letter is legit. Then I phoned the number given, and it was about an overpayment on an Argos card from a while ago. Turns out, they’re sending me a cheque for the extra money I paid.

I recently rang the Argos customer support number (0345) and, much to my relief, it’s entirely legitimate! I must admit I was a bit anxious prior to calling. The representative mentioned that they’ve been inundated with calls from folks fretting that it could be a scam. Turns out, these inquiries stem from accounts dating back several years with some billing discrepancies. I’m really glad it’s all above board! For anyone feeling uncertain-given the varying opinions shared here-it’s best to contact Argos yourself to alleviate any concerns before jumping to conclusions.

This website is all about helping folks figure out suspicious phone calls. I dont see why anyone would leave a nice comment about a letter here. If you get one of those letters and come across this post, my advice is to ring Argos using the number on their official site. If it turns out to be a scam, dont just brush it off. Make sure you report it to Action Fraud right away.

Got a kinda unclear letter from Argos Card, so I rang them up and checked my postcode. They said I’m owed £168.45 because of some wrong charges. They never asked for my phone number, full address, or any bank info. Guess I’ll wait and see if the cheque actually shows up.

If you've received one of these letters or been told to ring that number, you really ought to have a proper look at ALL these comments first. Then, double-check straight with Argos using the contact details from their official website or any paperwork linked to your account. If it turns out to be genuine - great. BUT if it’s a scam, PLEASE make sure to report it to 'Action Fraud'. Even just handing over your full name, address and date of birth can be enough for scammers to pull off identity theft.

I got a letter with this number on it, so I looked up the Argos services phone on their site, instead of the one on the letter. The woman said they’re reworking the interest and the letter is legit (I honestly didn’t even recall if I ever had an Argos card!). I rang the number, they checked my DOB and address, and said I’ll be getting a cheque for £22.17 for interest they charged too much back in 2007, when I lived in a different place.

I got a letter about my Argos Card too, even though it’s been years since I had one, so I was a bit wary. I rang Argos Card Services on 0345 266 0849 and they asked me to confirm the phone number on the letter. They said it was genuine, so I then phoned 0800 028 2054 and managed to get a refund. The money comes by cheque, so they don’t ask for your bank details, just the reference from the letter along with your name, date of birth and address. They told me scammers are sending out fake letters with a different number, so be cautious. If you’re unsure, always ring Argos to double-check!

If you're looking into this number, make sure to read through every comment - both the positive and negative ones. Some of the "positive" comments seem a bit dodgy (like, why would someone post about a legit letter on a scam phone call site?), but obviously it's your call what you believe. I'd suggest phoning Argos directly on the number shown in your account if you're unsure. Remember, scam calls, numbers, texts, emails, and letters should all be reported to 'Action Fraud'. Also, don't forget to report any scam calls, numbers, or texts on this site too.

If you search "ARGOS scam letter" on Google, you’ll see everything about this trick and the phone number they want you to ring. They’re total con artists who’ll try to get your card details, including the code on the back, and then use them for dodgy stuff. Best to just bin the letter and don’t answer that number.

A couple of weeks back I got a letter and felt pretty down after reading some bad reviews about the number here. I almost tossed the letter out, but I took a chance and rang the number on the back of my Argos card. They confirmed it was legit. I gave them my name and address, and thankfully, my cheque turned up today. Just a tip - if you call the Argos card customer service number on your card itself rather than the main Argos line, they’ll have more info about these things.

I looked up this number because of a letter I got, not because of some random call. They’re refunding me almost 50 quid, with a cheque coming through the post. They never asked for any bank details or anything like that. I even checked with Argos Card Services online before ringing the number, and they said it’s a legit refund for some interest charges from 2007. Yeah, I did pay some late fees back then. They already had all my info and didn’t ask for any personal stuff.

Argos Card Services got in touch and I was a bit wary since I've never owned an Argos Card before. So, I looked online and called Argos Card Services on a different number just to check. Turns out, it's linked to an old Homebase card I had ages ago where I paid some fees that they’re now refunding. They just verified the info from the letter and asked me to confirm my date of birth. Said the cheque's on its way. The only annoying thing was waiting around 15 minutes, but at least it was an 0800 number so the call didn’t cost me anything.

I recently rang up the Argos Car Finance crew at 0345 266 0849, and they assured me that it's a genuine number. They've mentioned that both former and current cardholders are being reached out to concerning potential overpayments and interest, and it seems refunds might be on the cards.

I recently received a letter urging me to ring this number, and judging by what I've come across from others' feedback, it turns out to be a scam-exactly what I suspected. I received this letter just today, on the 28th of September 2019, so it seems they're still at it, sending out these dodgy correspondences! I urge everyone to spread the word among your friends and family; some may take these letters at face value and not bother to verify online, potentially putting themselves at risk by making that call. Just a little caution goes a long way, folks! x

I rang the number for Argos card services I found on the internet, and they said the number is legit. I work in finance, so I’m aware how companies must pay compensation because of FCA rules. There's no chance I'll ring this number - got a letter but I've never owned an Argos card. I looked up 'Tina Grainger' on LinkedIn and she's actually Head of Customer Service and Fraud at Argos, not Head of Customer Operations like the letter says. Looks like a scam to me. Happy I didn’t pay attention to the people here calling it a scam, coz it’s definitely not!! Got £43 back from them for overcharging. Sure, be cautious but don’t be daft and miss out on cash that’s rightfully yours. They only want your dob and the info from the letter you’ve got!

This is a total SCAM. Please don’t call this number. I’ve chatted with Argos live and they confirmed there’s a scam going round via letters, texts and emails but they have nothing to do with this number. They told me to send any details to [email protected][###].

Just had a chat with Argos card at 8 in the morning on their official number and they confirmed it was legit. Last night I gave them my dob and spoke to Argos online chat around half 7, who first said it was a scam but then changed their mind and told me to ring Argos services. Waiting till 8am felt like forever. My tip is to be super careful - don’t ring the number on the letter straight away, contact Argos card first. Seems like the online chat is a bit confusing so best to call them directly as the initial scam warning was quite misleading.

You really have nothing to lose, just ring the number and don’t miss out on some extra money. Def NOT a scam, honestly i was suspicious too!

I phoned Argos Card Services at 0345 6400700 and they confirmed it's genuine. They told me to ring the number on the letter because an independent firm was brought in to handle refunds after years of overcharging customers. I haven't had an Argos card since 2012, but apparently I’m owed a cheque for £16. Not much, but still something.

Beware, this is nothing more than a con! Steer clear of that 0800 number. To those who casually share their birth dates in an effort to verify their address - you could well have unwittingly handed over your identity. Rest assured, that promised “cheque” is highly unlikely to materialise. “A big thank you for flagging this up. Regrettably, this appears to be a phishing scheme. We’re informed about it and strongly recommend disregarding it,” an Argos representative stated.

I got a letter telling me to ring 0700 028 2054, so I checked with Argos first and they said it was fine to call. I gave them a ring and didn’t have to wait long. They asked for the ref number from the letter, my DOB, and to confirm my address since I was supposed to get a refund. They said it’d take about 10 days and explained why I was getting the refund. Hopefully this isn’t a scam, I’ll see soon enough!

I recently got hold of one of those letters myself, and it’s been absolutely yonks since I’ve had an Argos card-literally two decades! I’m quite baffled over what steps to take next since the feedback seems to be all over the place. Some folks are claiming it’s a total con, while others insist it’s legit. For anyone who’s reached out to that number and shared their particulars, has anyone actually seen a cheque materialise? - caller: 08000282054

If I were you, I'd try reaching out to Argos on Twitter or just Google their card services contact number. I got a letter like that too, and just by glancing at it, I knew it was a scam. Still, I reckon some folks might end up handing over their info if they're not careful.

It’s from Argos regarding a refund for some charges. Was a bit suspicious at first, but the cheque showed up today!

I recently got a letter claiming I was owed some money due to an error related to late payment charges that apparently should not have been applied. To be honest, I was a tad sceptical, considering I haven’t even had my Argos card since 2010 and, having worked at Argos in the past, I’m quite familiar with the lengths some individuals will go to commit fraud. So, I decided to give Argos card services a ring using the 0345 number. To my surprise, they assured me it wasn’t a scam and suggested I call the Cardiff number stated in the letter. When I got through, the only detail they required that wasn’t included in the letter was my date of birth. The chap on the phone was very informative and mentioned that many others didn’t receive the initial cheque, hence the subsequent letters being dispatched. Quite a few people assumed it was a con. I’d recommend that anyone who gets a similar letter should first verify its authenticity by contacting Argos at the 0345 number before dialling the one listed on the back of the letter. There’s a particular scam going around that mimics this legitimate correspondence. Plus, while I was on hold with Argos, they had a message stating they would never text anyone regarding a refund. The takeaway here? Always conduct your own investigations and take what you read with a pinch of salt. Just thought I’d share my experience - the contact number I was given was 08000282054.

This isn’t some scam, honestly. I rung the number after getting a letter and ended up with over £50 back because they’d overcharged me on an Argos card I had ages ago. Chill out and grab the refund, it’s free money!

I called Argos card services first and they said it’s definitely NOT a scam, it’s actually about refunds. Since Sainsbury’s took over, they’ve been reviewing accounts because some folks paid more than they should have. Argos card services even gave me the number to call without me asking. The only annoying part was hanging on for like 30 minutes just to get a measly £14.70, haha.

I got a letter from Argos about an Argos card I haven’t had in like 10 years. I checked with their online chat and they said the letter and number are legit, not some scam. The phone number actually connects to Argos card support, and the message clearly says it’s Argos. They just ask for the reference number on the letter and then ask a couple of security questions before telling you about a refund for past wrong charges - in my case it was £29.92. They’re sending out cheques by post to customers. So yeah, don’t stress, it’s definitely not a scam.

Ring the official Argos 0345 number and they’ve got no clue about it. It’s a huge scam trying to collect people’s DOB along with their addresses. It’s so widespread they even have an automated message warning you, but if you hang about on the line, it’ll prove it’s all fake.

I reached out to Argos Card Services, and they confirmed that the number is genuine. When I dialled it, I discovered it was about a refund dating back to 2009. They requested some personal details like my reference number, name, address, and date of birth, but did NOT ask for any card information. They mentioned that a cheque is on its way to me in the post, but they just needed to verify my address first. - caller: Argos Finance Team

I recently came across a letter from Argos concerning an Argos card that I haven't used for a decade. After a chat with their online support, I was reassured that the letter was indeed legitimate and the contact number wasn't some sort of con. When I called the Argos card helpline, it made it abundantly clear that I was speaking to the right folks. They simply asked for the reference number from the letter and ran through a few security checks. After that, they informed me about a refund related to past overcharges, which in my instance amounted to £29.92. They mentioned that they’re mailing out cheques to affected customers. So, there's no need for concern-this isn't a scam in any way!

Today, I received a rather puzzling letter from Argos, which prompted me to reach out to their customer service. They requested that I send over a photograph of the letter via their Facebook messenger, as it lacked clarity. After confirming that the letter and reference number were indeed genuine, I decided to give them another ring. This time, the only inquiries they made were to verify my address and birth date. Apparently, this was all in relation to a refund I was owed from my days as an Argos cardholder. Since I've changed my address, they tracked me down to ensure the refund gets sent to the right place. I'm baffled by the chatter about it being a scam. By the week's end, my cheque should be arriving... Can't complain about that, can I? Lol - just to clarify, I didn't receive any phone call nor was I asked to dial an 0800 number.

I gave Argos card services a bell, and they assured me that it's definitely not a scam; it's actually for processing refunds. Apparently, ever since Sainsbury's took control, they've been going through all the accounts since some folks have been overcharged for their purchases. I got the letter and decided to reach out to Argos via their live chat. They pointed me towards the number for card services, as they were more equipped to assist with my query. Just glancing at the letter shows quite a few red flags. The address on the back is actually a PO Box. And although the logo at the top seems legit, it’s actually incorrect. This is definitely a scam. No doubt about it. Best thing to do is report it straight to Argos customer service, but don’t ring any numbers on the letter.

Seems legit to me. I jumped onto Argos’s live chat on their website and they confirmed the name on the letter with me. They also said if I had any questions I should call their card services team. They mentioned they’re using a third party for this, which explains why the phone number is different. I even saved the chat transcript. I called and gave a few details and they said they’d arrange a refund. If this was a con, it’s pretty sophisticated - like they’d have had to hack the website itself. Could be but I’m not convinced it’s dodgy.

I’m a bit puzzled by how many people are calling this number a scam. Maybe they’re just a bit too suspicious (which I get), or maybe some folks wanna damage this site’s reputation. It’s true, it’s not Argos itself, but a firm sorting out wrongly added late fees on accounts that have been shut down. If you’re unsure, just call Argos Card Customer Help, they’ll back up what I’m saying. I didn’t get a phone call from this number, it was actually in a letter I got from Argos.

I followed the advice from the Argos employee mentioned earlier and called the Argos Card Helpline. They assured me that the letter I got, with the number 08000282054, is legit. When you ring them, they ask you to verify info from the letter and your DOB. After that, they send out a cheque for any late fees you might have been wrongly charged - in my case, it was just £25. Since Argos can't get into closed accounts, they're using an outside firm to handle the repayments.

Same here, got a letter asking me to get in touch. I used to have an Argos card ages ago, but it's closed now. I rang them and just had to verify my date of birth. I've contacted Argos Card Services about this number, and I can confirm it's the real deal. Feel free to give it a ring if you're still waiting on a refund from some billing errors back in 2016. So, if you're unsure, do call the number printed on the reverse of your Argos card for reassurance. - from: Argos

I phoned Argos card on their official number and was told the reason why the number on the letter differs is that my account is quite old, so Argos can’t get into it anymore. Apparently, the third party company working alongside Argos has access to my details. I reckon with the PPI deadline approaching, this might be the final opportunity. Argos themselves confirmed this to me.

Hey everyone, I just used live chat again and they advised me to ring Argos card services on 03456400700 (you can find this on the back of your Argos card or on Argos’ official site if you want to double-check, since you can’t always trust what people say on here). Still, they stressed that it’s best for everyone to check with Argos directly first. Hopefully this info helps anyone feeling anxious like I was.

Could be a legit Argos number but scammers these days are excellent at faking real company phone numbers to trick people. I’ve seen loads of bank numbers get spoofed. Best advice is to never ever share info with someone who calls out of the blue. If you really need to check, hang up and ring the company back on the phone number you already trust from your statements or letters, making sure your line is clear first. Handing over bank or card details to an unexpected caller is just asking for trouble.
