I just rang Argos customer care on 0345 and luckily it’s not a scam, which was such a relief because I was getting really worried! The lady I spoke to mentioned they’ve been getting loads of calls from folks concerned it might be dodgy, but actually it’s about old account charges from a while back. It’s such a weight off my mind now. If you’re unsure, like some reviews here say, definitely give Argos a call yourself to be sure before you jump to any conclusions.

Just called Argos Car Finance on 0345 266 0849, and they told me this number is genuine. They said they're reaching out to both current and former card holders about refunds for overpaid interest or charges. Sounds like they’re sorting out some money back to customers.

There's no chance I'll ring this number - got a letter but I've never owned an Argos card. I looked up 'Tina Grainger' on LinkedIn and she's actually Head of Customer Service and Fraud at Argos, not Head of Customer Operations like the letter says. Looks like a scam to me. If you want to give them a call, go ahead. I don’t need fake refunds for stuff I never bought.

Avoid ringing the 0800 number - it’s a total con. Loads of people are sharing their DOBs thinking it’s safe because it’s "just to verify their address," but you could be handing over your identity on a plate and that “payment” will vanish into thin air. An Argos staff member said: “We know about this phishing scam and recommend you just ignore it. Thanks for letting us know.”

Could be a legit Argos number but scammers these days are excellent at faking real company phone numbers to trick people. I’ve seen loads of bank numbers get spoofed. Best advice is to never ever share info with someone who calls out of the blue. If you really need to check, hang up and ring the company back on the phone number you already trust from your statements or letters, making sure your line is clear first. Handing over bank or card details to an unexpected caller is just asking for trouble.

The lady I chatted with said she thinks the letter with that number is genuine but advised me to call back tomorrow when their finance team is available to double check. Got a call after getting a letter in the post. They said I’d get a cheque within 7-10 days. It’s now been over two weeks and still nothing arrived. Feels like a scam to me, those messages saying it’s legit must be from the fraudsters. I’m planning to reach out to Argos directly on Monday.
