08000234540 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 08000234540 👆 is reported as a number genuinely used by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) fraud department to alert customers of suspicious account activity. Many customers confirm its legitimacy after independently verifying through official bank contacts. However, the number is frequently spoofed by scammers aiming to extract personal and banking details. Calls may be automated, and genuine calls never request full card details unsolicited. Users are strongly advised to never respond directly to such calls or press keypad options. Instead, always hang up, ensure the line is clear, and contact RBS via the number on the back of your bank card or their official website to confirm any alerts. Vigilance and independently verifying communications are essential to avoid falling victim to fraud.

You can bet banks do call their clients, usually if they think there’s something fishy going on with your account. So don’t ever just brush off those calls.

Yeah, it's definitely RBS. Had a quick chat with their fraud department about it.

Got a call from 08000234540, but it sounded a bit fishy, so I decided to ring the number on the back of my bank card instead. Turned out it was the RBS helpline, and they told me there had been some strange transactions on my card that were declined three times. Lucky I checked with them first!

Without a doubt a scam from RBS bank...someone tried to take £50 from the Post Office. I'm stuck at home so it couldn’t have been me lol. They've sent a replacement card already.

It’s a scam, definitely not from RBS. Banks don’t ring you up like that.

I got a call from 0800 023 4540 recently, and it turned out to be from RBS. They said there was something odd on my account, so they temporarily locked my bank card. Had they been scammers, my card wouldn’t have been reactivated so quickly once things were sorted. Seems like they do this stuff to protect you from fraud.

Honestly, if you just visit the RBS site and check the section about the bank reaching out to customers, you’ll find all the official phone numbers listed there. The 0800 023 4540 number is clearly on that page. So anyone calling it a scam really needs to rethink because it’s definitely a legitimate RBS contact.

I've fallen victim to a right con artist and they managed to access my account. I received a call claiming there was suspicious activity flagged on my account. If you ever get a call like that, for goodness' sake, don’t engage-just hang up and contact your bank directly. Protect yourself!

Got a voicemail from a lady asking me to call 0800 023 4540 about some suspected fraud on my RBS card. I didn’t ring that number though, instead I called the number on the back of my card. Chatted with the bank’s fraud team and sure enough, someone tried to make a purchase in dollars! They’ve cancelled my card now and sent a replacement. Thankfully, I wasn’t billed for the fraudulent purchase. I frequently use ‘Who Called Me?’ and it’s a brilliant service.

I received this number from RBS at their physical branch. It’s intended for customers like you to ring up, or the staff can use it to reach out while you’re sitting right next to them. This line is automated and is there strictly for addressing issues regarding your account.

BUT

If you’re getting a call from this number but don’t recognise the voice, there's a possibility that the caller is concealing their true number. Hence, while this number might appear on your display, it could be a scammer hiding behind the legitimate bank number.

Sure, a call from this number might be above board, but if you’re in any doubt, don’t feel obliged to answer.

You’d be better off dialling the number directly on your own to resolve any concerns pertaining to your card or account.

Got a text about some card transactions, one got declined. I replied saying they were legit. Then got another message saying they couldn’t find my details and to ring the Fraud Team on 0800 023 4540. They asked me to enter my mobile number, but still ‘can’t find your details’. Finally got through to someone, who said I was replying to a text and passed me to another guy, sounded Asian. He wanted my sort code and bank info. I told him I was getting suspicious and hung up. Maybe it was genuine, but it didn’t feel right at all.

Got three calls in the last day from an automated message claiming to be RBS, ringing our landline. But they were asking for our son, who hasn’t lived here for over 20 years!!! Surely they must have updated contact details for him?? The message just started with "This is an important message for...", didn’t mention anything about the Fraud team or whatever. I’ll tell my son to contact the bank directly using the number on his credit card just to be safe.

Got a call from the RBD fraud team. I'd already been in touch with someone there about someone trying to mess with my account, so it’s blocked now and they’re sending a new card. They said they needed those details to get into my account, even though the first person managed without them. Bit confusing really… I’ll just ring the number on the back of my card to be 100% sure.

Like a lot of people, I was a bit iffy about this number at first. But when I called The One Account (which is backed by RBS), it turned out to be the RBS Fraud Team warning me about some dodgy transactions. Best thing to do if you're unsure is to call a number you know is legit, and in this case it really was RBS.

Really strange situation. It seems to be the RBS, as confirmed in an online chat. When we phoned the number, the guys speech was totally unclear, so we just ended the call. There had been a hold on some online transactions, so we used the number on the back of the debit card to check.

The call felt like one of those automated ones. They said something like “This is the RBS fraud department” and then asked me to “press 1 to proceed.” No chance. If it was really the bank's fraud team, someone would talk to me directly, not make me press buttons. If I get any more calls like this, I’ll just ring RBS on my own. For now, I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

Total scam. We tried calling the bank to make sure.

Looks like it was legit, but I rang my bank using the number on the back of my card to be sure. Turns out they were just doing some fraud checks. They told me I did the right thing by contacting them through a trusted number instead of just replying to the texts or calls. They said that’s the best move if you’re ever unsure about who’s calling. Really happy I double-checked with the bank - probably prevented a dodgy scam.

Real number for sure. Got a couple of missed calls and some really silent voicemails. Looked them up and then rang the card help line on my credit card. They told me it’s a proper fraud line and put me through to check some transactions that looked suspicious. Didn’t ask for anything personal except my name and customer ID.

Over the last couple of days, I’ve been getting calls on both my mobile and home phone from 0800 023 4540, saying they’re from the "RBS V1 Fraud Team". Had another call pretending to be NatWest too, but I can’t quite recall if that was from the same number. It feels dodgy since the bank account they mentioned is actually linked to a different phone number, so I’d expect them to call from that instead. Weirdly, Googling the number brings up some results linking it to RBS, but when I click through those pages, I don’t see the number anywhere at all.

This number is actually linked to RBS fraud, its not like the scam numbers that ask for loads of personal info. I dont get why people are saying its a fake fraud alert - its legit as far as I can tell.

This has gotta be a total scam. I was sure I was ordering from a legit site but luckily Natwest blocked my card payment. Then I got a message telling me to phone the RBS fraud team on this number. Natwest told me straight away that it was scammers trying to trick me into giving them info and warned me not to call back or respond to the text at all.

Have a look at the comment below and actually READ it. Just a heads up, scammers sometimes put fake red flagged scam reports about bank fraud dept numbers here to trick folks into blocking them. There’s some anti scam advice shared in this thread too.

Got a phone call from this number, picked up and was met with an automated voice saying it was the RBS Fraud team. I hung up straight away and phoned RBS using the number on my debit card (03457 242424) to check if the call was genuine. Turns out the call was real and someone had been trying to use my card details several times. If you’re unsure, always call RBS using the number on the back of your card.

This sounds like a total con from Royal Ban. Someone even popped up here pretending it’s legit - don’t fall for that either. Best to just steer clear and not get involved; it might be a pretty clever scam.

This number rang me up three times telling me to press 1 to get through to the RBS Fraud Team. Didn’t press anything, though. I reckon it’s linked to some yoga workout site. I tried to buy a course and the price was way more than what I thought it’d be. Ended up not finishing the purchase. After that, they kept bothering me with loads of calls and texts.

I can assure you, this isn’t a scam at all; it’s the legitimate phone number for the fraud team at RBS. They’re responsible for monitoring any unusual transactions linked to your account, and they’ll ring you up to verify whether you initiated a particular transaction. It’s rather unhelpful to label it as a scam, given that their role is to safeguard your financial interests!

Got a call from a number I didn’t recognise, checked it out and found nothing suspicious. Then right after, I got two texts minutes apart saying Amazon tried to take £41 from my account and it was flagged as Bank of Scotland fraud. One text gave a phone number, then another from the first number asked for my details to cancel. I looked up the numbers, blocked them and reported. All this happened in like three minutes, so no doubt, it’s a scam.

I've received calls from this number both on my mobile and my landline. They claimed to be from RBS, wanting to verify my identity. They instructed me to press 1, which I did, only to have them disconnect the call. This morning, I received yet another call from the same number. When I answered, there was complete silence on the other end. After looking through other people's comments, it appears I’m not alone in this experience. Such a bother!

Not really sure if that was actually RBS calling. They normally send a text beforehand (which they did last time) but I got a random call from this number out of the blue. Maybe it’s an old RBS number someone’s using fraudulently. I didn’t answer and haven’t had any message from RBS, so I’m thinking it’s a scam using a recycled number.

I've been receiving calls from this number roughly four times on both my mobile and home phone. Each time, it was an automated voice claiming to be a security alert from RBS. I chose not to engage with it and instead contacted RBS directly. The woman I spoke with assured me that they never use such automated messages. She kindly connected me to their fraud department, which verified that my account was perfectly secure. This sort of call is really starting to infuriate me!
