My partner was using her laptop when suddenly a woman speaking English with a pretty neutral accent cut into her session. A message popped up with what looked like a Microsoft logo saying her device was hit by a 'W32' virus and told us to ring a specific number straight away.
We quickly shut off the laptop and searched the number online, luckily landing on this website.
We've got McAfee protection, provided by BT, so it’s baffling how these scammers managed to get through at all. Really makes you wonder how safe these programmes truly are.

These scammers, mostly from India, are behind the BLASTER virus mess. They somehow bypass all the filters BT and Microsoft put up, then lock down your computer and insist you pay up to sort it out. They've been at this con since about 2006. The only way to report them properly seems to be through GOOGLE; BT and Microsoft just keep giving you the runaround. Honestly, I think some of their 'tech guys' might be in on it too and deserve a proper jail sentence. - Noel Hodson, Oxfordshire
