I can't stress enough how foolish it is to ring back a number you don’t recognise. Loads of scammers churn out fake UK landline and mobile numbers, and it often ends up being someone's genuine number by chance. If you return the call, you might fall victim to a wangiri scam or even reveal personal info to a con artist. Thankfully, the person behind this number was pretty understanding (honestly, the ones who keep ringing should be the ones saying sorry), but for others it could cause a real headache.

This is my phone number, but unfortunately, it’s been compromised. Somehow, through software or online tricks, scammers are making calls pretending to be me. If you get a call from this number, I’d suggest blocking it straight away so these scammers can’t bother you. That’s actually my phone number, but it seems like someone’s hacked it. I have no clue how they manage to call people pretending to be me, probably using some kind of software trick. They’re definitely scammers. What should I do about this? I’d really appreciate if you could block the number I mentioned, so they can’t bother anyone else with calls.

I got a call from an automated message claiming to be the ‘Chinese Embassy’ or something like that. I just ended the call straight away. Sounds like one of those scams trying to trick Chinese folks into believing it’s official, hoping they’ll send cash to avoid being sent back or trouble for their relatives back home or whatever. Total scam, don’t fall for it.
