I got an automated call claiming to be from HMRC. Since I do have a tax debt, I answered and ended up talking to a guy with an Asian accent. He wanted me to give him my personal info. I asked, "How do I know this isn’t a scam?" He told me to provide my details so he could verify them in his system. Then I asked, "Which tax exactly am I supposed to owe?" (I work in accounting and there are several taxes that come to mind). Right after that, he just hung up.
