This happens quite often. Anytime you share your name, phone number, and email with a company, they usually sell your details to others. Scammers and dodgy businesses buy these lists because they can make loads of money by phoning people. Out of every 100 calls, they probably get about 5 responses. And each of those can earn them at least £20-30, sometimes even £300 or more. If I don't know the number, I just don’t pick up. The days of junk mail were better, at least you could chuck it in the bin or recycle it. You can’t exactly bin a phone call, can you?

This phone number is not real, it’s picked up by some business and then they use an automated system to promote with that number (CLID). It’s actually against the rules and should be banned by the phone providers, but surprise surprise, they keep letting it happen because it makes them money. On your own mobile, you can even put in an incorrect number to show up as your caller ID. They just never tell you stuff like that.

BIT Trading is a total scam, involved in cryptocurrency trading. They refused to provide any email contact. They claimed I asked for info from them - which I never did. When I demanded the email of their data protection officer, they just cut the call.

Got a call from some woman called Lauren who knew my name and claimed she was ringing from Bit Trading. She said they're based in Estonia but also have an office in London. She mentioned they’re regulated by the FCA, which I know isn’t true for crypto firms. She said she got my number from the "Phone Book." When I asked her to hold and checked with someone, they said my details are handled by marketing and promised to take me off their list.

There was a kind of echo and a lady’s voice asking, “Is this [my first name]? I’m Rita from bit trading.” Then she asked again if it was me. I said who? She repeated she’s from bit trading and started saying why she was calling, but then the call dropped - maybe the line was bad. She spoke good English but you could tell she had an accent. I’m on the TPS list and these types of calls are definitely scams.
