Fraud alert!

I keep getting messages claiming to be from O2 asking me to update my info or else my service will be stopped. Don’t click on the links they send, the fake site looks really convincing and if your phone or tablet auto-fills your info, you might end up giving them your login without realising.

Got a message claiming to be from HMRC about a tax refund, asking me to click a link. Seems dodgy to me.

Some Asian bloke kept asking for me by name. I kept saying "who's this?" but he just wouldn’t say. Then he got kinda rude. I told him to go mess around with the traffic lights or something. Glad to see loads of folks are catching on to these scam calls now.

Second rule for keeping safe from dodgy phone calls: never ever ring back a missed call from a number you don’t recognise. Seriously, you’re lucky nothing bad went down! I’d say you should try your luck with the lottery now. If you call back, you might end up on a premium rate line and some scammer could try to rip you off for more cash. First thing to remember is never share any personal details or agree to anything if you do pick up - don’t even say your name.

Just got a call from 07983832524 but no one picked up when I answered. Sounds like it could be one of those hacking tricks. I'd suggest changing your phone passwords and any banking app logins just to be safe.

They’ve been ringing me non stop since yesterday, 10th Feb 2020. Had about two calls this morning, but when I answer and say hello, they just hang up. Tried to ring back and it just sounds like the line’s dead. It’s a mobile number too.

it’s just some line cooked up online that bt gave them, they’re from a debt help group so no need to stress,

This number rung me up 6 times today and on the last call I finally lost it with them. They said they were from some debt recovery firm, but when I told them I don’t owe anything, they started going on about my life insurance. I asked to speak to a manager and warned them I was recording, and that my husband, who works in fraud for HMRC, was listening too - then they told me to f*** off.

They claimed to be from the credit investigation team. I just find it hard to trust a firm that uses a mobile number though. I got a bit rude with them, and now I’m awaiting a court date. I’ll share an update if I manage to find out who they really are.

I received a call from someone claiming to be with the Citizen's Advice Credit Fraud Department. Honestly, what a farce! Little did he know that I’m actually employed by Citizen's Advice myself! Definitely reporting this number and blocking it.

Got no clue who it was since they didn't leave a voicemail. Which UK firm rings you up and just doesn't bother to say anything? I'm guessing it might be one of those automated bots just testing if the number's active.

Random people keep ringing my phone, and I have no idea how they got my number. I've set my phone to only allow calls from people I know or am waiting for, yet I still get these annoying calls. I’ve blocked way more numbers than the ones I actually want to hear from! Does anyone know how to completely stop these pesky calls, even when I’ve already blocked the numbers?

They told me I’d won a £1000 Barclays cheque and that it was on its way to an old address I haven't lived at for over five years. Then they started asking about my life insurance and who covers it. Seemed quite polite but I just ended the call.

Got a missed call earlier today, cheers to everyone who’s left their thoughts here. I usually ignore calls from unknown numbers and just look ’em up on this site before blocking. Today was a bit different though, as I’m expecting a builder to phone me about some home repairs. Honestly, I’m almost thinking of calling back this time. I’d probably support the party promising to take real action against these bloody pest calls once and for all.
