At first the messages claimed my Sky bill couldn't be paid and my account would be disconnected in half a day if I didn’t update my payment info. Now today they’re saying I’ve got some tax refund waiting, but they want my bank details to send it to me.

I reckon this might have something to do with 01271 075441. It was an automated message on my landline telling me to press 1 to accept a charge or press 2 to talk to someone. When I pressed 2, they claimed to be from Amazon Prime. I told them I don’t have an Amazon Prime account, but they didn’t really answer my questions. Sounded like a busy call centre on the other end. I said I wouldn’t speak to them unless they could explain properly and put me through to someone in the UK, but they just refused and hung up. This kind of thing is happening way too often now!

I didn’t answer 'cause I was driving and didn’t recognise the caller ID. Well, kinda did - the last 3 digits match a bunch of calls I’ve been getting everyday for the past few months. Every single one I checked out here and they were either scams or just annoying nags. I’ve got my own way of screening calls: if I don’t know the number and I’m not expecting anyone random (like the doctor’s office), I just let it ring out. Real people leave messages or friends with new numbers text or message me on Facebook. Blocked now!

+447909474942 rang me with some automated message saying I need to renew my Amazon Prime subscription yearly. I know mine is charged every month so I guessed it was dodgy straightaway. Also, the real Amazon number in the UK shows up with their name, but this one didn’t. Don’t press 1 or share any info. Total scam alert!!

On 25th Oct at around 6:10pm I got a ring from a woman with an Asian accent claiming to be from Amazon. We aint got an Amazon account, so that was fishy. The weird part? The call came with my usual dialling code! I told her we’d had scammers before and then just hung up. I checked the number with BT’s 1471, and when I tried to ring back, it said the number wasn’t recognised. Definitely just a scam.

Got a robotic message claiming it was Amazon, saying if I didn't press 1 my account would get blocked, same thing three times today, one call even came at 7.15am. Didn't press any buttons. The number showing up is 02079969254, really irritating. It's coming through my landline and when I call out, my number shows as "unknown caller" to others. No clue how they got hold of this number.

These sorts of scams ought to be reported to the police via their Action Fraud website. It’s the only way they can get a grip on how widespread and serious these scams really are. If everyone reported every scam attempt, the site would be flooded with thousands of reports daily. Right now, only about 2,000 are logged each month. I understand the police do follow up and do make arrests, but honestly, they need to step up their game.

Every scam call or message needs to be reported to Action Fraud through their phishing report page. Make sure to follow the steps online, especially the bit about forwarding the info to the NFIB. The police do try to help, but they can’t act unless all scams are correctly reported.
