I received a rather alarming notification asserting that I have an outstanding obligation to the government! What a ridiculous scheme!

This bloke told me he was from the citizens advice bureau. Since I’ve got an ongoing issue with them (my drains are a mess), I let him carry on. But then he started banging on about debts, credit card problems and some unsecured PPI nonsense. When I asked him how he got my phone number, he just cut me off. Total scammer, proper dodgy!

I saw a missed call from an 07 number but didn't pick up and now I can't return it. bit dodgy to be ringing from those kinds of numbers! Luckily, I held off answering once I read what others said here.

Got a call from some bloke named Eric who said he was with CAB, but as soon as I asked for proof, he just ended the call. Then, weirdly, he phoned again a couple of hours later with the same story. I told him I knew what he was up to, and he got all offended, called me rude, then just hung up on me! Hilarious really.

Got a call from some bloke from India asking for a "block" or something, and when I told him he’d got the wrong number, he claimed I was using an illegal number. I asked him how he could possibly know that, given it’s my own phone and number from my provider. Then he insisted I must be using fake info unless I was this Mr G. MC, which I’m not, and then just hung up on me. Strange encounter!

Got a call earlier but didn’t pick up since I figured if it was important they’d leave a voicemail. Just checked this site and ended up blocking the number. Seems pretty underhanded to ring from a mobile like that.

He rang and wanted to speak to me by name, but I never confirmed who I was. I asked what the call was about first, then he repeated my name and tried to introduce himself. Before he could say more, I told him I hadn’t claimed to be the person he was asking for, just wanted to know why he was calling. He replied, "If you're not who I asked for, why should I tell you?" I told him not to bother calling this number again, and he said he wouldn’t and then hung up. Honestly, good riddance - what a waste of time.

Got a call from a bloke saying he was with some government debt department. He wanted to know if I had any credit card debts or loans with me, I told him I didn’t. Then he just said sorry and cut off straight away. It was quite unnerving, especially since he used a mobile number and already knew my name - made it feel even dodgier!

Got a call from some Indian bloke too. Absolute nonsense! Ended up blocking the number straight away. Back in the day, with those creepy "heavy breathing" calls, people used to blow down the phone really loudly or whistle to freak them out. Maybe that’s the best way to handle these conmen and time wasters now as well. At least I’d have the pleasure of thinking they ended up all deaf as well as being daft idiots!

I got a call from a guy who said his name was Peter, sounded like he was from overseas. He was talking about some unpaid debts I supposedly owe. When I told him I don’t owe anything, he just cut the call. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a call like this from him or someone very much like him.

Got a call from some bloke overseas who knew my name. When I asked him how he got my number, he just started swearing and making horrible remarks. I ended the call right then and there. Already blocked the number. Sounds like a scam about checking your credit, so just block this number straight away!

My sister got a call from them and then I got one too, but they used my Twitter handle to reach me. They claimed they were from some place like Citizen Debt and said I owed loads on credit cards. When I told them I didn’t owe anything, the bloke just cut off. It seemed like it was all automated because every time I asked what the call was about, the message came through the same every time.

This idiot from India rang up claiming he works for some cab company and was going on about me being in debt or whatever. I just told him I was perfectly fine with no debts and a cracking credit score, then told him to get lost and ended the call before blocking the number. Seriously, don’t fall for it. The citizens advice bureau wouldn’t ring you out of the blue like that - they’re there for you to reach out to, not the other way round. It’s clearly some muppet trying to nick your bank details and personal info because they can’t be arsed getting a proper job like everyone else!

Received a call that rang a couple of times, with the person claiming to be from the Citizens Advice Bureau. However, when we questioned them, a chap named "Eric" responded by calling us rude! Quite bizarre, really.
