I picked up a call and was met with a recorded voice saying something like "Your National Insurance has been compromised..." and asking me to press 1 to talk to an advisor. Obviously, I hung up straight away knowing it was a total scam. According to the official government site, HMRC will only get in touch about debts you're already aware of, won’t leave voicemails threatening court action, and definitely won’t explain the purpose of their call on an answering machine. So if you get a call like this, just ignore it!
