5 yearsI got a message on WhatsApp from someone claiming to be my daughter, saying she’d lost her phone and had reported it missing. She said her bank had frozen her account for a couple of days and asked me to pay a couple of bills on her behalf, promising to repay me shortly. The chat went on with this ‘daughter’ saying she had a new phone number and asked me to save it, saying she couldn’t ring me from it. I suggested she just use her new phone, but “she” said she was out buying flowers and grabbing something to eat. Feeling suspicious, I called my mother-in-law who told me my daughter was actually at home working in her office upstairs. I went to check and sure enough, she was there fine. I didn’t send any money and thankfully the scammer gave up. If this happens to anyone else, I’d recommend reporting it to WhatsApp right away, getting the number blocked and setting up two-step verification on WhatsApp and Google for better security.WhatsAppGoogleSubmit Your Own Report (07938 432393)
