I've recently started using my new work phone during the COVID lockdowns. I received a ring at 9pm from someone I could hardly hear, with background commotion-possibly kids playing or a television blaring. The voice sounded rather youthful. I kept repeating "hello, hello," and eventually, he clearly responded with "hello." Curious, I inquired who was on the line. He introduced himself as Dave. I informed him that I didn't recognise him. To my surprise, he claimed that his mother had passed on my number and mentioned he was in the finance department. I reiterated that I had no idea who he was. Then he said, "You do know me; it's xxxx (my actual name), isn't it?" To my amazement, he proposed going for coffee the next day. I thought to myself, is he serious? During a pandemic? I reiterated that I didn’t know him and promptly ended the call.
