I wasn’t paying much attention and got caught out. Someone tried to use my bank card to buy stuff at Carphone Warehouse, so I had to cancel it straight away! They even rang me up, pretending to be from my bank’s fraud team. Really wish I’d been more careful.

Got this text early this morning at about 12:41am. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was dodgy - living in Scotland, any official NHS stuff would come from NHS Scotland, not some random UK health dept. Definitely a scammer having a go. Don’t follow any links if you get one like it. The message said something like: NHS-UK Health Dept says you’ve been near someone with Omicron and need to book a PCR test at book-your-test.com. Total rubbish, watch out!

I recently came across a concerning message that seems to be masquerading as an NHS notification. It read something like, "You’ve been identified as having been in close proximity to someone with a confirmed Omicron infection. You are required to arrange a test." Naturally, it included a link for scheduling the test. This incident affected a mate of my husband's. He fell for it and ended up shelling out 99p for postage. A few days later, he received a call from his bank, alerting him that his card had been compromised. They asked if he’d replied to any NHS message, as they were seeing a worrying spike in scams of that nature. They recommended he get his bank cards replaced. What’s alarming is that, amidst the panic, he inadvertently provided several of his card numbers to what turned out to be the scammers posing as his bank! Thankfully, he managed to reach out to his actual bank in time to put a stop to everything. What a close call!

I've seen loads of comments here, like 3 or 4 directly on this thread and about 8 more down the list, giving step-by-step instructions on how to report these scam calls. They all stress the importance of logging every dodgy message and call you get, plus tips on ways to put an end to them altogether. Makes a lot of sense to keep reporting so we can maybe get these scammers off our backs for good.
