Just like a few of you mentioned, got a message from someone saying "Hey mum, I broke me phone, text me on this one." Seems like a classic trick.

Exercise extreme caution, folks! I recently received a text that raised alarm bells. It started off with "Hi Mum," and claimed that one of my children had a busted phone. They urged me to reach out on a different number, citing poor signal issues. The message was rather convincing, playing on emotions and cleverly crafted questions that seemed plausible. They were after £900 and even shared a personal name to make it sound legitimate. Please don’t be taken in by this sort of scam!

Hey mum, I've gone and broken my phone. A mate lent me theirs but the battery's about to die. Can you text me on my new number, it’s 07923915884? Don’t bother replying to the other number, just ignore it. Thanks x

Bit of a scam really - someone called up saying they were my mum and claimed their phone was busted. They said they'd be using this new number for a while while sorting it out. Wanted me to reach them here, they said. Sounded all stressed too, going on about stuff they had to sort today but can’t because of the phone situation. Then went on about struggling with the bank since their old SIM’s dead and they can’t get online. Proper stressed sounded like.

Just got a text from a number saying “hi mum I’ve dropped my phone...” bit odd coz I don’t have kids or anything. Sounds like someone’s got the wrong number or it might be some scam? Either way, felt weird getting a message like that out of the blue.
