Just got a text from 07946 765884, saying it was Halifax telling me I’d added a new payment recipient named Mrs K Adams ending in 1876. But I didn’t add anyone. The message had a dodgy looking link to “secure” my account. Sounds like a scam to me! Be careful if you get anything like this.

Got a message like that about HSBC too, but I’m nowhere near being their customer. I’d actually been looking to buy some plants off someone local on Marketplace, so at first I figured the message was about how to pay them. I’m living in Attleborough if that helps!

Got a text about confirming a new payee named MRS K ADAMS. It had a link which took me to what looked like HSBC’s site, but the URL was something like payee-verify[###], totally bogus. If you put your details in, like account numbers or passwords, they’ll nick them for sure. Watch out, it’s a phishing scam.

Same here, some person called K Adams or something like that saying they were from HSBC. The thing is, I don’t even have an account with HSBC. You’d think phones would be smart enough to block or flag legit company numbers.

Same experience here as the first comment mentioned. Haven’t done anything about it yet. I’m going to block the telemarketer’s number on my phone once I figure out how to do that.

Got a text from this number a while back saying some bloke called R Davies had tried to set up a payment on my banking app, which I don’t even use. The message told me to follow a link that looked like "nationwide[###].account-verification-link[###]". I found it fishy, so instead of clicking it straight away, I typed the address into my browser and my security software flagged it as a dodgy site trying to steal info. Ended up blocking the number straight away.

Received a message from this number claiming “HSBC: A payee request has been made for MRS K ADAMS on your HSBC mobile banking account. If you didn’t authorise this, please check: security.hsbc.verification-link[###]”. I didn’t click the link, instead I looked up the number and saw lots of others reporting similar texts but with different banks like Nationwide and various payee names, so clearly a scam. Also, I’ve never had an HSBC account, so that’s a dead giveaway!

Received a text supposedly from Nationwide saying there was a payee request from someone named R Davies on my account via my banking app. It had a link and said to check it if it wasn’t me. I’m not even with Nationwide so I thought it’s dodgy. Don’t click on any of those links, it’s definitely a scam. I’ve blocked the number straight away.
