Got a text earlier from a number I didn’t know, saying it was my son using a mate’s phone since his was broken. The message had a new contact number and asked me to get rid of his usual one. I messaged back before thinking it through and suspecting it might be dodgy. Since then, I’ve blocked and wiped both numbers from my phone.

Got a text earlier today from a number I didn’t recognise, claiming to be my son. They said they were using a mate’s phone since theirs was broken. The message included a new phone number and asked me to get rid of his usual one. I replied before I caught on that it might be a con. Afterwards, I blocked the numbers and wiped them from my phone.
