Looks like my experience wasn’t much different from others here. I got a message from someone saying she was Helen, 19, from Harrogate, and since I had a Gumtree ad up, I thought it was just a simple mix-up. I replied nicely at first, but she kept texting me afterwards. At the start, the messages seemed pretty harmless, but then they got a bit flirty, which caught my attention. After that, things got a bit dodgy and awkward, and by then I was stuck in a chat that was tricky to get out of.

i put up some ads on gumtree to get rid of a few things i no longer need, then this guy calling himself “steven” messaged me asking if i wanted to go hiking. i had no idea what he was on about, and he said he’d got the wrong number or ad or summat. after that, he kept blowing up my phone with loads of messages, sending all these kisses, getting really annoying. i finally told him to buzz off but he just ignored me. in the end, i had no choice but to block his number since he just wouldnt stop bothering me!

Got a text from some bloke named Steven asking about hiking and walking stuff, then he goes and says he’s got the wrong number but kept messaging anyway. Had a look here and saw loads of folks saying he’s actually a catfish!

I had a similar thing happen like the ones mentioned from 02 & 17-01-2018. This person, who said they were 19 and from York, reached out after seeing my number on Gumtree. They used the same name, Helen. I kept getting loads of messages about random stuff, like offering me a "hot chocolate" (I can’t stand the taste of that). Eventually, I stopped replying - it was honestly just a hassle.

someone named helen from harrogate rang me claiming she'd got the wrong number from a gumtree ad. at first i figured it was just an honest mistake. we messaged a bit, and honestly it was a bit amusing at the start. but then things took a turn and the messages got kind of forward and a bit dodgy, so i decided to stop replying.

Got loads of texts from someone calling herself Tiny Helen, claiming to be from Harrogate. She must’ve found my number off Gumtree or something. Was nearly fooled until I looked up the number and realised it was dodgy!
