Got a call from someone named Kate, said she was from Falkirk. It was one of those classic Gumtree scams. She said she needed a courier to pick up something and wanted to sort payment online. I told her only PayPal would do, just so I could spot the scam straight away. After that, she just vanished from the conversation.

Got a spammer off Gumtree. Wouldn’t even bother reading the ad properly. Kept asking about dents and scratches when the pics and description were crystal clear. Then went on about delivery when it’s clearly pick-up only. They hit you up on texts or WhatsApp trying to pull a fast one. Best to just block them and stay well away!

I was messaged about buying something and they said they’d have a courier come collect it. But as soon as I asked for payment before sending the item, they just stopped replying. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

Eliza and Kate were scammers that sent inappropriate pics. The way we managed to catch them was by replying in the chat on their subdomain, then using DNS forwarding. I made sure to report everything to the police and shared the subdomain as proof before they could take it down.

Got a WhatsApp from someone called Kate from Falkirk who wanted to buy some furniture I had listed on Gumtree. She sent me a link telling me to use Pay2Go and said the money would be sent. Honestly, don’t get caught out by this, it’s a scam!

Got a message through WhatsApp from this number about something I was selling on Gumtree, with a photo of a good-looking young woman. The person asked loads of questions about the product. There was also a link to my listing, so I guess it was some kind of automated message sent to a bunch of people. Still waiting to hear back. Their WhatsApp status says offline at night, and it looks like it’s not a UK number.

Eliza and Kate turned out to be scammers sending nasty pics as well. We managed to catch them by replying in the chat on their subdomain - you can do a DNS forward to track them down. I reported everything to the cops and shared the subdomain link before they could take it down.

This seems like one of those Gumtree con artists using a fake subdomain link to trick you into believing they've sent a payment by card. To track them down, we need to look into their DNS forwarding when they respond via that dodgy subdomain site - it's a good way to trace the scammer. I have a feeling they might be based in South Africa, but who knows for sure. Also, the number’s linked to some sketchy profiles for male masseurs and domestic cleaning, which feels really suspicious. Best to steer clear. Spread the word about these numbers and just give them a call - scammers hate that.

After claiming to have sent the money, they then asked me to click a link to put money onto my card. They also asked for my card balance, which I reckon is so they can use or take the money themselves. Definitely a dodgy scam.

Had a dodgy experience on Gumtree recently. Some bloke was keen on buying my wardrobe and claimed he’d pay me via this parcel2go thing. Got a link from him which asked me to put in my card info - felt off straight away. Seriously, don’t get caught out by this kind of scam!
