Some bloke calling himself "Alex Smith" from HMRC rang me up telling me I was being investigated for some criminal stuff. I only gave him my name and address, then he made me repeat some code and case number. His accent sounded Indian, and I could actually hear another guy with a similar accent talking to someone else asking the same questions! I called him out on being a fraud and then he just hung up on me.

Called me claiming to be from HMRC, but it was some call centre in India. Yeah, right! Got me all riled up, but luckily I caught what they were saying in their own language. Got a call from these muppets claiming there’s some sort of HMRC criminal case against me and demanding £3000. I rang them back about four times, and each time they were all too keen to take my cash. I kept them on the line, pretending to believe them, and could even hear the dodgy background noises they use to make it sound real - obviously just a scam trying to fool people.
