It felt a bit dodgy, especially since the call came from a mobile. Honestly, I wouldn’t advise handing over cash to anyone on the phone for things like this.5 yearsSomeone rang me saying they were from the Raising Smiles charity, trying to get me to put an advert in one of their magazines. The call came from a normal mobile number which just felt off to me. So, I rang Raising Smiles direct on their 0800 number to check if that number was legit. They told me they actually use an outside agency called Best Solutions for calls like these. The person I spoke to there wasn’t able to confirm the mobile number was theirs for sure, but said it probably was and since I wouldn’t need to pay anything until the advert artwork was agreed, there was really no risk. I pointed out that the random mobile number could be anyone, so it didn’t feel trustworthy. I also said an 0800 number would make things look more above board. The guy just said most people would just say no anyway. I replied that’s exactly because the number seemed dodgy. He didn’t budge, so I just said thanks and hung up.
